If you put the Chevy Engine in there, resale will be limited to those who are interested in that sort of conversion. Which is to say probably less than 10% of most interested Porsche buyers out there. Something to keep in mind. Otherwise, it would really transform that car into a rocket.
As far as prices goes, it might be cheaper to go the Chevy route, but in the grand scheme of things, probably not significantly cheaper.

no not really a all aluminum engine would save a lot of weight but thats really expensive...This is what I read.... "a weight savings of about 100 pounds over a cast iron V8. The performance times were verified on a Vericom computer. Priced at just under $18,000, this engine will allow you to out-perform the world's top exotic cars, including a Ferrari with a 500 hp motor and a price tag about $500,000" I

just take the money you have invested in your porsche now, put the $18,000 you have to spend on the chevy motor, and drive it into the ICW. let it sit there in 10 feet of salt water for a year or two while you decide what to do with the zero value porsche you have left.

Don't take it personally V. Just keep in mind this is an enthusiasts forum. Some of us ( and I have to include myself in the group to be fair ) think it is sacralige to take such fine German Automobiles and drop a chunk of Detroit steel in it. It might sound harsh and not everyone shares this view, but I prided myself on finding a beat up 78 Targa and restoring it to it's original factory beauty.
People do different things with there cars and I have heard of some smoking 944s with v8s in them for example. I think Doug is just trying to say that there are a lot of people who love the breed of car and you could spend a ton of money putting a chev engine in it , only to find it may have a very limited market if you were to sell it.
Having said all that , given a choice I would rather see first a Porsche , with a Porsche engine , second a Porsche with A Chevy Engine , and last A car that was parted out due to no engine.. that is the worst sacralige of all.
all the best

I'd build up your existing engine, or do a later motor transplant. Sure, a V-8 would be cheaper to build and maintain, but IMO the car would always be viewed as a pieced-together car. It also seems to me these conversions always have some kind of teething problems that just never get 100% sorted out.

ouch, for post #6 he can ....no, never mind. the e-bay line is even funnier. ask e-bay if the car has matching numbers.
