Default buying question please

i am currently looking at buying a fairly big ticket item from a private party advertising here. the guy doesn't have a paypal account and i was wondering how you guys have handled transactions like this. the guy is asking for a postal money order then says he will ship it. yeah right. any suggestions ?

see if he will take a credit card, that way you have some protection , never send postal or money orders ... ever

I used the PPI mechanic as a go-between for my long-distance purchase of my 72 911T. I sent the mechanic the bank drafts and he took delivery of car and the shipper picked it up from the mechanic's shop. Still, it requires that you trust the mechanic but at least he has a reputation and a business.

Best of luck.

Where is the product located? Maybe a Rennlister or Pelican Head can check it out an pick it up.

Thanks all. i found out the guy is a reputable porsche mechanic but must still be in the dark ages as it pertains to the internet etc. I called the shop he works for and they vouched for him as well as got a couple of references who said he is a semi-legend here on the east coast when it comes to p car engine rebuilds. I feel much more compfortable now.
