Default Please Help with Targa Rubber Molding (w/pic)

See my problem in pic? Is there anything I can do short of replacing the rubber to get it more uniform looking and/or Black again? The top does not leak at all, so I really don't want to mess with replacing and Jinx myself. Any Ideas???

Thanks in advance,
Earl

I had them recovered on my 89 Cab when I got the top replaced. It didn't cost much and looks great after.

I don't know if the fabric is torn off, more like worn away. I am assuming from years of the window up and down. I have not considered the fabric spray. Does anybody have any pics of this done??? Before and after would be nice.

Fabirc dye works but only if you have fabric to put it on Personally I would just replace the thing

You can try the dye, but it isn't too hard replacing IIRC, the seal is probably $125-150. I did mine a few years ago, and can't remember the exact price. 3M weatherstrip adhesive and a couple of hours should do it...

The gentleman at Car Care Specialties ( http://www.carcareonline.com/howto.aspx ) suggested carefully trimming the loose threads with an x-acto knife and then using a permanent black marker to restore the color. (He emphasized permanent for obvious reasons). I haven't tried it yet but I will when I've got the more important things sorted out. What's to be lost by trying--the rear seal is expensive and if it ain't leaking there's only one way to go in that regard. Obviously, however, I'm not driving a show car.

Default here's what to do...

I had the exact same problem with mine. All you have to do is get a somewhat dull kitchen knife, and rub the shredded fabric away using the blade of the knife perpendicular to the rubber piece. This will get rid of the worn fabric, exposing the black rubber below. Mine is totally leak free and has been looking good for years.

what about "forever black" ??? Every used car dealer on the planet uses it to refresh old rubber. it's about $15.00 at Performance Products. everything your car needs can be found there. Not that your car needs anything, I'm just say'n that's the stuff, and that's the place to doll up your baby.

I used Black liquid leather dye and it worked pretty well. In fact, it looks a lot better than it did. Thanks for all of the tips.

Cheers!
