Hi , i'm reassembling my engine and i need to know what is the torque of the housing sprocket nuts according to the shop manual ?
What i got from Haynes manual is 70 ft/lbs.

Sorry , i forgot to mention the CAMSHAFT housing nuts.
they are 13mm nuts , haynes manual says 71 ft/lbs and i don't rely on that book. I began torquing them at 20 , then at 40 and the second not went loose so i lost a stud , i stopped it right there and asked you guys .
And by the way is the torque of the head nuts 25 ft/lbs ?

71ft pounds on a 13mm nut ? no freakin way man ...71 inch pounds maybe .. are these the nuts that hold the cam shaft housings to the head ? or the ones that hold the cover to the housing ? if so I can check my bently , also tell me the haynes reference page so I can double check that too..

I think i'll get rid of that silly book
they are the nuts that hold the camshaft housing to the heads and the torques are on page 15.
If these torques are not good i'll need more help to have the good ones before i'm to far on re-asembling !!

I see your mistake

The 71 foot pund is in fact the camshaft sprocket nut ( the big *** nut that holds the sprocket on the end of the cam shaft, now the question is which nuts you are talking about .

The bentley shows the cylinder head to crancase torque as a two step process
step 1 - 7.5ft/lbs
step 2 - 24 ft pounds

the camshaft case ( or cam tower ) to cylinder head is 18ft lbs.

I would seriously suggest stopping right now if you are in this far in with only a haynes manual and spend the 100.00 or so and get a bentley. There is so much info not in the Haynes it is not even funny, I use it to hold the door open between the house and the garage so I can nip in and check my bentley.

At least tell me you used the loctite 574 before assembly . I didn't see mention of it in the haynes although I may have missed it. If you are stuck for a manual and need it right away Pm me, I may be able to hook you up with a resource.

I don't think we forgot you .. I tried to send some stuff but it all got sent back as too large. If all else fails just spring fro the Bentley ... even if it meand getting a rental for a week , still cheaper than putting your engine together wrong .

I would like to ask another question about infos in my haynes manual.
at page 41 , to the right , after the valve timing procedures there is a chart of the permissible dial gauge reading on valve of cylinder 1 vs engine type. Mine is a 1970 911T so 2.2 liters and on the engine it's written 911/03 so on which one of these measurements should i rely ??

Is there a shop manual on cd available somewhere for the year of my car ?

I have an sc so i don't really know that info , my Bently only covers SC for this. I am sure Steve or Pete may be able to check.
So how is the valve timing anyway ..think it could be done in the car ? My car leaks beteween the chain box and the cam housing which means doing basically what you are doing.
