'74 is a piece of cake. Just turn the adjustment and jamb nuts, on the trans end of the cable, until you've got about 20 mm of free play at the top of the pedal.

Thanks Pete. I will print this up and put it on my tool box. Yes, I bought a clutch cable last fall, and now it's about time I install it. Myself and many others will benefit from your protocol.

Just got my car back. Rebuilt transmission with new 1st-3rd, new clutch, oil return line, heater hose, sound deadening blanket etc. and $3200.00 later. I will be keeping the car for a while.
