Back in Black....
I just finished a REAL wax job.
1. Washed car well
2. clay-bar'd
3. machine polished with 3M dark swirl remover
4. 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, Polished with wool buffer
5. Mothers Carnuba wax. Polished with wool buffer
WOW. I had forgotten how good a black 911 looks when it is polished out....now mind you my car's paint has 22 years of scratches and chips, but Holy Smoke....I couldn't wait to share some pics...will eventually get some outside...Yes, that is a pic of my reflection in the drivers door
Yes, my garage is a mess I know...

Your car is too shiny. Take it outside and run some sandpaper over it now!

That looks great.
A coincidence: I was doing my second-ever wax job on my own black 911 today. It was too dark to take a picture when I finished, but here it is 'ready for treatment:'

Mine has not been recently painted...I believe it is original given all the chips up front (can't see in the pics) and relatively low miles (86K). The polish + glaze + buffing before the wax is really the key...first time I had ever done that...I bought one of those $30 chicago polishers at harbor frieght - well worth it! I had a friend show me how to use it since it is not "orbital" and you have to be more carefull not to swirl...I had no problems....
I had always just used "cleaner-wax" before on cars and I can REALLY tell a difference....I will use "cleaner wax" on my daily drivers, but not on my 911 anymore!
Jack, your paint is really gonna shine when you are done....I wasn't able to tape much of mine off, but I should have...I had bought some auto painters masking tape, but it wouldn't stick well...I had treated all my rubber with "back to black" not that long ago and whatever is in that, wouldn't let that tape stick. Having it taped would have helped for sure.... make sure to post some post waxing pics!

By the way, it took me @ 4 hours straight to do the polish, glaze, and wax...factor in 1.5 hours for washing and clay bar for a total of 5.5-6 hours from start to finish....
I could also tell a difference with the clay bar....it works!
