lower profile tyres on 16 inch fuchs 7s and 9s??
Hey Guys,
right now my tyres although in good shape are mismatched since I bought it and I want to change them. Right now they the standard widths and profiles and are 7s and 9s (yes I'm sure of this) which are a bit balloony for my liking. Anyone know some lower profile sizes I can use, can also go wider than the 245s on the rear? Any brands and models you recommend for my car?
thanks in advance
Spence

The only way to properly lower the profile on your tires is to upsize to large diameter wheels like 17". If you just drop the profile on your 16's, then your wheels are not going to be the right size (around 25" diam.) and your speedometer will not read correctly.
What size tires are you using now?

More of the same.
You've got turbo flairs (lucky bstrd! :0) so fitting wider tires should be easy. Finding wider tires to fit 16 inch wheels will be the issue. You may have to go to 17 inch wheels. I don't like the look of 18 inch wheels on a pre-964 car.

I was wondering the same thing...the big tires on my 911 7 & 8 Fuchs look like they belong on a Tonka! Holy sidewall, Batman.
That website name gets "asterisked" out on this site...why? Copyright/trademark/anti-defamation/personal injury fears? Does anyone know if the front valance on that car is the RS Racing fiberglass piece?

You can go 245's up front and 275 to 315 in the rear depending on the tire and your suspension setting and intended use.

thanks a lot earlyapex for all the info, the thing is I love fuchs on pre 89 911s, anything else just never looks right to me. I like everything to be era correct or it looks a bit butchered IMO.
BTW: your yellow/yellow combo looks killer!
arbeitm: I have 205/55s on the front and 245/45s on the rear which are the stock sizes, having the speedo recalibrated isn't an issue, it's not expensive. I would be happy with the same widths just lower profile, the sidewalls look to high. I can remember a long time ago speaking to someone with an SC and I'm sure they had lower profile tyres and had to get their speedo re calibrated.... I'll keep digging!
cheers guys!

Going to a lower profile tire will result in a smaller tire/wheel diameter as you have alluded to. This in my opinion would not look good on your car. A better option would be to go to a 17 inch Lindsey Fuchs conversion as can be seen on Jack's black RSR clone.

Keep the stock profiles on your 911, they look best!!
The profiles are right for the year, I think impact bumper and earlier 911's look wrong with too low profile tyres.
Here's an example, this GTO has probably got 70 or 80 profile tyres on it but would anyone in their right mind change them? Of course not, they look right!
