Default Aftermarket Exhaust on early CIS 911

I went through so much finding a great exhaust for my Boxster (since so many have a bad resonance). I'm thinking of getting one now for my 73.5 911T with CIS. It's got the stock OEM muffler with about 60k miles on it or so. Any suggestions? To give you some indication, my favorite sounding 911s are the 2.0 liters, with that beautiful whine. I realize of course to get that on my car, I'd need to ditch the CIS and get some carbs (which then includes different cams and pistons), which isn't going to happen.

I'm thinking of a Bursch exhaust.

I recently installed a M&K on my 80 911sc.....it sounds great cruising, a tad loud at idle (very low rumble).....it looks great (single inlet with dual outlets). Another advantage is that it is very light.

I've got a fabspeed pre-muffler and monty muffer, which i really like.

(You'd have SSIs on you 73.5 so you dont have the pre-muffler)

from my research, most rennlisters in the US love the M&K

Hi Jay: From my viewpoint nothing sounds as good on the pre-2.7s as the stock muffler. The problem that I've encountered over the years is that (1) aftermarket units get very loud shortly after you install them (<10K miles), and (2) they pop on decel - which drives me nuts! Sorry!

"Nothing sounds better on the pre-2.7s as the stock muffler" Even for the muffled CIS?

I did just call Bursch and spoke with Doug Robertson, the guy who designs the mufflers since the 356 days. He mentioned that he actually has a different muffler for the 73.5 than the mechanical injection. He said the mechanical injection had a flat spot that required something different than the straight CIS power band. He has a 2.7 with that exhaust on it, and he's not that far from me. So, I will go hear it first.

I will say I'm not looking for loud. My Boxster was too quiet, yes, and needed volume and feeling. My 911 has never been too quiet. So, if these just add volume, without some sweet, vroom sound, then I'm fine with the way it is.

I'm running a dual out B&B that gets very loud after while. I've capped one end to reduce noise level. Video on my website.

Hi Jay,

I have an ANSA on my 73.5 and think it is a sweet sound.
