Winter project checklist
I'm gearing up for my winter projects on the 911 and wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what else to consider. So far the list is:
- Replace shock inserts (due to seepage - us this worth doing or should I replace the whole shock?)
- Replace front rotors (nice big crack in one)
- Powder coat the roll bar
- Replace door, trunk and window seals (and maybe track down my mysterious water leak)
- Install stainless brake lines
Thanks

Replace the inserts unless you have Koni or Bilstein struts, which can be rebuilt. I’d replace them anyway w/Bilstein Sports front & rear. If you have Koni struts only Koni inserts will work. If an SC or earlier remove the thick washer from strut top. The following should be considered "since you’re in there anyway" why not? Especially any front end work since you will need to have the car realigned:
- Adjust ride height, it will need to be done anyway as part of the 4 wheel alignment
- check & repack the front wheel bearings
- check the tie rod ends & replace if the covers are cut. You can replace just the ends or install Tubo Tie Rods
- repack the rear constant velocity joints & reverse their rotation
- replace all the bushings in your shifter & upgrade to factory short shift kit (not needed on 86 & later)
- replace transmission fluid
- flush your brake system & replace w/”blue”
- clean your air conditioner compressor (in the smuggler hole)
- check air conditioning hoses & if you need to replace any replace the drier too
- check all of the belts
- check & lubricate the heater box doors
- if it’s a Carrera remove the seat spacers for more head room w/helmet
- check the ball joints & replace if covers are torn
- replace the front & rear sway bar bushings
- inspect the rear sway bar mounts for cracks
- replace the rear spring plate bushing (big job)
- replace front a-arm bushings (not so big)
- if you haven’t, upgrade brake pads to lowest competition material
- inspect calipers for leaks, dust covers wear etc. rebuild if necessary
- adjust the clutch unless hydraulic
- rebuild peddle cluster
Most of these procedures are covered here or on Pelicanparts.com & yes I’ve done everyone over the last 3 years.

The list that David provided covers a lot of stuff,I would only add the following-do the things you have always said you would but don't,for instance check the door rubber,if it is in good shape maybe clean it and rub it down with a protectant.Do the same with all rubber on the car.Do a thorough detailing on the engine bay, clean all the electrical connections in the fuse box,you get the idea.Everyone has a list like this that you just never get to for whatever reason, now is the time to get to it.I suggest you write down what you want to accomplish, then start checking them off as you complete them.Enjoy.... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
