Post SC to RGruppe Look Conversion?

Has anyone attempted the conversion from SC to '73 RS look? What more is involved other than f/r bumber, long hood, and front fenders?

Off the top of my head...

Some way of holding the hood down (either weld in a latch panel from an early car or use bonnet pins).

Ummm, stuff like the turn signals. Probably need to custom-make bumper mounts etc.

Try these links (its not like i've ever done the conversion - but I got real curious for a while):

Don't forget that the rear end is quite different as well and an early rear bumper, rear valance, etc would be required. The easy route would be converting your SC to a 74 Carrera RS 3.0 look-a-like. Same side stripes (and you already have a 3.0L engine) but you don't have to change as many body panels.

I've been thinking long and hard about doing the same thing. What has kept me from doing it is the fact that I am too much of a bum. But I'll do it one of these days. The only way to properly do it is to get an early hood latch panel and weld it in. Early fenders and hood of course. Then remove the bumper shock reinforcements in front and back along with the rear reflector panel. Then find a way to bolt on the rear bumper's extensions into the rear of the chassis in the same way it's done on the early cars. Very easy stuff for a good body shop. To do it to a 964 would be a little tougher, but still doable since it has been done in Germany. I have a feeling this type of backdating might eventually become a popular conversion once the early cars start to become scarce.
