I wouldn't waste the money on 9's in my opinion. I think the 8's are to expensive as it is. I have driven cars with 8's and 9's on them and cars with 7's and 8's on them and I can't tell the difference on the street or the track!

I'd also be interested to know the reason for this. It might explain why my set of Cup 1 replicas have mismatched front offsets:

Fronts 17x7.5 offsets 25/14 with 205/50 ZR17
Rears 17x9 offset 15 with 255/40 ZR17

I'm not currently using them, as they are wrong for my 964, but any info would be appreciated!

Keep in mind that those cars were still very much built by hand and the left front fender is closer to the tire that the right front fender. It's just the way they are.

I had a set on 7x16 and 9x16 Fuchs on my 83 cab and switch to 7x17 and 9x17 Fikse FM10's and don't have any issues since I put the bigger wheels on

I don't know why the right side either, but that seems to be the norm. Must be something more than these were "hand built" as it always seems to be the right. When I was thinking of fiting 7s with 225s, for example, I had read from many, many folks that I may need to roll that fender. Sure enough, when I ended up doing it, the right had no clearance issue whereas the left needed the lips rolled. Go figure. BTW, my car is lowered which obviously increases your chances for having to roll. Of course, YMMV

Default 8s and 9s

I have 8s and 9s with 205s/245s on my SC and they are great upgrade from 6s and 7s and fit perfectly. There are used sets around but they are pricey. The downside is ever-decreasing tire selection. I bought another set of 17" track wheels and tires specifically because of the lack of tire selection.
