Post Where's you FIND your early 911?

As a follow up to my earlier post about early 911's vs SC's. I am leaning toward the '68-73 911S with special interest in a '72S. Where the hell did you find yours? The SC's are still in the AutoTrader, Recycler, etc - at least they still are in limited numbers in Soiuthern California. But the early 911's are arare as hell. And the ones you find are largely cobbled together very non-original things with any size engine, any type wing or airdam "update" . I want a clean to excellent daily driver S. I know they cost a lot but where the hell do I find one, much less several to compare? P.S. their aren't any inthe Rennlist classifieds, only the "abortion" ones - My opinion - sorry!

I looked at PCA web sites and <a href="http://www.enthusiastcars.com/index_framev1.html" target="_blank">Porsche Classified Digest</a>.

Took me over a year of diligent looking to find mine.

Thanks for the link to the Porsche Classifieds Digest. I didn't know that existed. Now it is a "favorite". I looked through it and there seems to be a lot of junk out there. Just looked at the few ads with pictures, but few were nice enough to make me look twice. At least in a price range I could afford.

What's the story about that 911 with the guys checking it out? Was there text that went with that?

Dan,
The picture with everyone crawling all over my car was during the inspection / judging for the car show. They looked EVERYWHERE. They even found a quarter I dropped between the seats, and gave it back to me too.

In case you are overlooking the obvious?- Excellence Magazine and Panorama - still not a lot of choices but worth checking regularly. And look at the dealer advertisments.

DuPont Registry is another magazine thats always fun to browse - even when not actually shopping.

I think if your standards are high (original, no rust, matching #s and accessories) the hunt for any of the pre-1990s cars is tough but the rewards -
Oh - so sweet.....

Ebay is a great place to find a car, especially if you live in a major metro area. I found my '84 by setting up a search on Ebay with a daily reminder.

Once you find the right car you have to act quickly, know a PPI mechanic and have that wad-o-cash waiting. This proves to the seller that you are not wasting his time, also a "fast deal" keeps the price down.

Know what you are looking at, you can't polish a turd. Keep your mind open on color/options.

Schuey, That T is very nice. Now, I'm totally new to 911's but I thought the 2.7 didn't start until '74? Am I all wet? Please advise since the ad claims "original 2.7"

ZZOPit - I can't access Ebay from my work PC, so I'll just have to be better about checking it out at home. I agree with you about color/options. It's paramount if you want the best car available for your budget. Yet there are a few colors I'd certainly prefer.

Nate, Your car is very nice. I'd like to ask a dumb question without offending. I love Fuchs that are chrome and black masked but have not been a fan of the all black ones. What years came with the all black? Can anyone clarify when they went from polished/black to all black?

Jack - Someone left a Porsche 911 out in a field to rot away? OMG!

Found mine in a parking lot where people go to sell their cars. There was a beautiful yellow 77 911s targa that I had been looking at, and while I was looking this guy drove up in a black 71 911t targa. an hour later it was mine!
