Default Classic Insurance? hagerty

Thinking about doing hagerty insurance, agreed value and 600 bucks less a year.
I drive the 911 maybe 2K miles a year.

Anyone else have this?

I've insured my non daily drivers with Leland West for many (20+) years, saving thousands of dollars by doing so. My only suggestion is to read any collector policy carefully; how/where you garage the car?, do you drive it to work one day a week?, will you use it less than "x" miles/year?, etc. If you can comply with a collector policy it is a great thing to have.

Haggerty is wonderful. They don't have any set-in-stone mileage or usuage restrictions, only requiring that you do not have the 911 as a primary means of transportation. They enforce this by requesting a copy of your other insurance policy that covers your "daily driver(s)." Not only do they do agreed value, but they also do very low or zero deductibles, depending on the value of the car. The policy is admitted CNA paper. They will not, however, cover any form of motorsports, racing, OR DE events. It is a very airtight exclusion.

I used to have Leland West with my 944, but switched to Hagerty when I got the 911 because they were cheaper. Also like Drew says, there is no mileage restriction like Leland West had...not that it mattered I never reached my 5,000 miles/year limit anyway.

Also, Hagerty will set the agreed value at whatever dollar figure you want. I have mine at $ 15,000. You just have to pay higher premiums for higher values. Leland would only give you what they felt the car was worth...I think my 944 was $ 6,000.

No one covers motorsports (that I'm aware of). So if you crash during an auto x we'll have to tow you outside of the Meadowlands and say you ran of the road and hit a wall or something while "pleasure driving".

I found agreed value with LW was easier. They asked me what I felt my SC is worth, that was that - done deal.

The problem I ran into (in addition to the prohibition in seemingly all of the policies that I NEVER drive the car to work) was that I have an Umbrella policy with State Farm, and they said my Umbrella would be cancelled if I did not have my house and all of my vehicles insured with them, so I am stuck. Be sure and check that if you have an Umbrella (and anyone with much in the way of assets should).

You can buy an umbrella from another market, and they will sit over CNA (Haggerty) no problem. Mine is through Travelers.

I have my 911SC with Grundy (Chubb) along with my 1912 Ford Model T Touring. Agreed value.

I have State Farm and pay $250/year, full coverage, with a $500 deductible. The only stipulation is that I must drive less than 5,000 miles per year.

I used Hagerty on my '84 and will use them again when I find another. They questioned me a great deal about driving it to work... I had noted on the application that I would do it occassionally. They had someone call and question me about it. They asked how often I would drive it to work.. once a week, once a month, or a couple of times a year?

He said they understood that it was going to happen, just didn't want it to be a regular occurrence. I told them a few times a year and moved on. It wasn't really untrue, although when I took it to my mechanic, I would do it on workdays, and his place was close to where I worked... so by default it ended up at work a bit more than that.

I registered my car as an "Antique" in PA and have State Farm. Agreed upon value and only $157 a year!

I've noticed that since Hagerty started their national advertising campaign (e.g. Barrett-Jackson, etc.), their premiums have increased accordingly. I switched to Grundy last year because of the increases. I attribute these increases more toward paying their agency and print and media ads rates rather than any losses they may have incurred; and this was before Katrina.

However, no experience with either one with loss compensation.

Hey Peter,

Thank you for the tip. It gave me the energy to shop around.

I have a 1986 911 Cab and drove it about 2K last year. I was paying way too much with state farm (FL). When I purchased the 911 in late 84 I called Hagerty, and they would not insure an 86 (I do have a 75 TR6 with Hagerty).
Yesterday I got an excellent quote from Leland, but wanted to check to see if 20 years will get me in with Hagerty. I have no Idea why, but in minutes Hagerty accepted my application after uploading some pictures. This move saved me $1,200 per year.

Thanks for the tip. I applied for a quote from Leland for a classic Jeep of mine and it shaved half off my annual bill

Leland appeared to be less restrictive. The 911 I am shopping for will be affordable to insurance since it will be a weekend driver.

I've got the same coverage on my '72. The agent does require informal notice when I'm going to an open track event. He did provide a letter saying the coverage was in force in the Paddock, but not on the track with our without other cars.
