Thought I might offer the comments I made on the Viper Board to the Porsche community as well.
--------------------------------------------------
I read the posts on the Rennlist Board (and recently on the Turbo (911) Board and find most of the Porsche enthusiasts to be open, honest, respectful and objective (as one might expect). Others are less so and still others tend to be downright insulting. The clownshoe remarks are just asinine.
For me it comes down to personal preference. Vipers and 911 Turbos are both great cars and so close in performance that driver skill will likely be the only real determining factor. That assumes, of course, that the Viper has been outfitted with real brakes. Pisses me off that we need to pony up another 4 to 5 large just to get the friggen thing to stop respectably.

Great post for a Snowy CT afternoon. I've been a Porsche owner since '86 (new 944 n/a), cause I could! No Vipers back then,( I guess I could have gotten a Hemi something) But I also built some pretty nasty Chevy Small blocks( showing my age? ), and admire most all High Performance crafts. Sooo that's why we race. To each there own.
With that I just want to say that the Clownshoe (never though of it like that)/Bathtub exchange made me bust out Laughing! Thanks
Buck

No, it was a <a href="http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=joke" target="_blank">joke</a>. I should know, I made the remarks. Feel free to jump back to page 1 and read my post. Then again, don't bother, I'll quote it for you here:

</strong><hr></blockquote>

See that little yellow guy at the end of the line? That little smiley face with the big stupid grin means it is a <a href="http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=joke" target="_blank">joke</a>.

In other words, lighten up, and ask yourself why it is so upsetting to some people that someone
they have never met doesn't like how their car looks?

Lots of people don't like Porsches, and assume everyone who drives one is a self-centered *****. You know what? I couldn't possibly care less. I didn't buy a 20 year old 911 to impress anyone, or make my dick bigger, or pick up chicks. I bought it because I wanted one since I was a kid, and they are fairly affordable, relatively easy to maintain, and a ton of fun to drive, even with a lowly 180hp.

Don't feel persecuted though (since everyone seems to care so much about what I think), it isn't just Vipers I don't care for the looks of, I don't like the new 911's all that much either.

You must admit, the resemblance is striking

BTW, I didn't have to look hard for this Viper picture, I found it when I did a Google images search for "clown shoe". It was on the first page, 9th hit. (if you don't believe me, try it yourself)

Now, if this really upsets you, you may find some help <a href="http://store4.yimg.com/I/officiallynuts_1722_8018595" target="_blank">here.</a>

They won a lot. Chrysler got bored and quit racing them.

Your childish, woefully inept and completely ineffective diatribe convinces no one and totally substantiates my point. I hope we meet on the track some day so me and my clownshoe can give you and that poor excuse for an Aryan outhouse the automotive equivalent of a bitch slap.

And I mean that in the best possible way!

Both Porsche and Chrysler/Dodge Viper have accomplished a lot since '94...... Audi has the most to crow about of late. What's the real arguement?

Why is it so distressing to you that I (someone you have never met, and aparently have a poor opinion of) doesn't like the look of your car? Or do you simply have to leave you sense of humor back at the Dodge dealer before they let you drive off the lot?

I actually enjoyed the bantering and take none of it seriously.

When it comes to cars people always reference what races the car has won and its racing history. I look at real life numbers on the street or at the local racetrack. I always hear about the porsche can do this, the viper don't have brakes and the z06 can't turn and has plastic interior. On the street or at the local racetrack now thats what counts.
Professional drivers and professional multi million dollar raceteams racing on world famous racetracks don't. Just my 3cents

You know, i am not a fan of vipers very much, mainly because they have to much power and not enough wieght in the right places. I've not been blessed with cash to say that i've driven or owned one considering that i can barely afford the 9 grand i spent on my SC. Personally i think that the viper is a massive engine, with massive wheels, and massive tires so that it has the grip to get the power to the ground. It is the perfect car for someone with a fat wallet that wants a raw car. No luxuries, no psm to save your *** in bad whether, no comfort, and i'd imagine a decent yearly price on maintenence. But on the other side of the fence, porsche has gotten really soft. They've seperated there track cars from the street cars and added a lot of luxury to try and make the "yuppy" market happy ( no offense to whoever owns one). But the difference with the viper and the let's say the comparible 996tt is the the tt can be driven everyday, even in snow. Has the low-end torque, top-end pull, sports car handling and every luxury any lazy bum would want. And from the magazines i've read, well, let's just say that unless you have a death wish, i wouldn't recommend letting the viper touch anything moist much less snow. So for an extra 40 large over a viper, you get insane reliablity (and that's not just the engine, that's everything that's reliable), good overall power, all wheel drive, and more luxuries than you probably want. Personally, i am the type that would take my car which i thought as is had too much luxury, and spend the extra cash i saved over a viper (roughly 71,000) and make it fast. I'd covert to 962 head's and cylinders (the ones that are electron beam welded), have the twin turbo charger setup from the 935, an all fiberglass body, welded in roll cage, fuel cell, 335 in the rear and 275 in the front, oh, and a **** load of testosterone. But hey, that's just me, i like the idea of over 800 hp in a 2200 pound car (sorry gentlemen, i must excuse myself as i have just gotten excited and must take care of it).

what what a topic... Read the whole thing just now..

It IS comparing apples to oranges here..

Vipers are raw and have nothing much then an engine to propell the car and make it fast with the help of HUGE patches of rubber.

They both of course have their pro/cons for each car.. We all already know what each does well and what they dont do..

Yeh a viper is fast. On certain tracks. They arnt an autox monster, they cant go in the wet ect.. Who is to saw a 914 isnt the faster car then a viper statement cuz here at our autox 914's chew up everything. So is the 914 the fastest car.. Of course not..

We all love our cars, we bought them for our reasons.. I never made a huge statement about my super cheap 24k wrx with some bolt-ons ans such to be a better car then a viper. Did i go everytrack day and wax everything on the track. Yes.. Did i take vipers all day with my 300hp and some suspension... Its all about what ya want. Yeh it feels good to take half the money and beat the higher cars. But ya get what ya pay for. I had no interior and pretty much just the motor and awd system that was nice.. Fortunately it made the right combo to make it fast.

Who's to say that a $3000 dollar talon with 10k of mods wont aniiliate any viper on the track. Yeh 700hp. full suspension and all done for under 15k.. Is it a better car. Of course not..

Vipers have motors
Porsche has everything...

what are YOUR priorities? <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Both are great cars in their own right...But just opening up and shuting a door in a Porsche tells me its the right choice for me! Happy motoring!
