Default a better way to remove gauges?

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to remove my tacho as a tiny bug somehow got in and sadly died. I tried the twisting the screwdriver method but all it did was leave an impression on my dash and the gauge didn't budge. Anyone got any good tips on taking them out?

Spence

I have heards to use two spoons and pry it out, you may want to try another guage , if one comes out , reach in and push the tach out from the back.

Ice Man is right....I found this to be the best method....I was able to remove the clock (it was the only one that wanted to come out) and I reached behind and pushed the speedo and then the tack. I have heard of removing the over in the trunk and pushing from the back.. Your biggest problem will be removing the glass to get to the bug....

I'm amazed I even remember that line ... it has been about ten years since the last time I watched that movie.. But i did notice that the guy who plays cruises co -pilot in the last sequence is actually Tim Robins... oh I digress....

Instead of risking any damage to the dashboard, just go in through the trunk. When you push the carpet aside on the driver's side, reach your hand back and push. One of the gauges will come loose. Work from there.

Spence I watched my mechanic do it on my 81 911 SC ...he started from the clock, working from the lowest point of the bezel in case he slipped w/ screw driver...then he poked his fingers in and popped the tach out....then while he was in the office I reached in thru the drivers window because I noticed a wire seemingly hanging just underneath the ignition....And discovered that you can start a 911 without a key or intent...thankfully the 928 in front of my 911 was not too far away from the front bumper...which limited the damage, as I had left the SC in gear.....sigh. Why the babble....always leave it out of gear when working around the wires etc....

I used 2 paint can openers to pull out my guage and it worked pretty well. I would put a piece of electrical tape around the bezel to prevent scratches if they slip. Works well as you pull out the guages and don't have to pry against the dash. As long as we are talking guage removal, is there a way to remove the speedo without pulling the steering wheel? Seems impossible with my 89. I need to change some bulbs.
