It's ALL OEM, except the custom machined adapters. I even got the OEM Porsche boxes for the rotors and the calipers. It's all sitting in my garage.

It's my friend's kit. He was going to originally install it on his 85 Carrera, but we all know the economy isn't doing too hot right now I'm the man with the digicam and the positive feedbacks on ebay, so I put it up for him

Ok, further follow-up, who machined the adapters? I am always a little nervous when buying custom parts if they don't work, I am out in the lerch.

Also, does your friend have negative feedback . . .?

I am not trying to circumvent your buddie's kit, but I am just trying to figure out the quality of the adaption.

Thanks.

He got the kit from EBS Racing. As far as where THEY get the adapters from, that we are not sure.

Flybye, are you sure about those being EBS parts, I just got off the phone with Don and he said that they did not sell/make a kit using 993 rotors. If you could get me the part numbers on the rotors and calipers to verify where they are from I would still be interested. Even if the kit does not work I may want 993 twin rotors and calipers.

Thanks,
Marc

My friend said EBS sourced the kit for him. I've never personally delt with EBS, so I really can't comment on what they can or cannont do.

Basically, what happened was he originally bought the Boxter calipers hoping they would work on his car but they didn't. He called EBS back and told them he wants the Big Reds kit. They told him we don't have an adapter for that, but we can get them for you, and there they were (Big Reds and adapters and 993 rotors & their adapters) at his house. Obviously, EBS did this so as not to loose a customer. They wouldn't tell him exactly WHERE they got it from. For all we know, they could have gotten it from Pelican. The adapters don't have any type of part numbers on them at all.

Thanks Flybye,
Was this kit or the parts ever intstalled (i.e used calipers/rotors for the kit)? Right now I am just trying to see if I can locate the manufacturer of the adapter, if not I will have to factor in the potential cost of having to source out the necessary parts to complete the job should it not work.

Thanks again,
Marc

Well, if any of it was ever installed, then it wouldn't be brand new If you notice, the rotors have no wear marks on them and the calipers still even have the grease on the retaining clip

Not to put any damper on flybye's friends parts, however, anyone considering putting big reds on the front only, should consider what that will do for overall braking balance. If I remember the ebay ad, it is a kit for thru '89, which all have a single piston rear caliper, plus the 84-89's have a bypass valve to limit rear brake lockup due to the larger pistons introduced in 1984. Do your research, as stock pre-89 rears and big reds may or may not be a balanced braking solution. I suspect it isn't, but you should check it out.

One option would be to put big reds on both ends. Another option would be to upgrade the rears to at least 964 or 944 quad piston calipers, and without the bypass valve.

Just to put things in perspective, that kit is available from a number of places including Rennsport systems and Pelican. The complete kit including hard and soft brake lines and pads goes out the door for ~$1750.

Keep in mind that you will need matching rears. 965 rear calipers on 930 rear rotors is perfect(almost any other caliper will be off one way or another for a host of reasons). Also needed is a 930 master cylinder and 17" wheels.

Granted, the rear will mlst certainly need to be upgraded, but I wasn't about to begin to recommened people what they should do for the back. I only know of Porsches because of my Love for them. As far as tech information goes, I can't provide very much, and it's sometimes hard to get a hold of my friend. (Work, school, etc) He was originally going to use 951 calipers in the back, and has allready sold them.

It's good info, and I appreciate it. I'll post it next time on ebay, because it just doesn't look like it's going to go through this time around

By the way, I at least DID include that you need 17" wheels I'm almost tempted to put the kit on my RX-7
