Bought my first 911 a few months ago - basically stock 85 coupe w/ 86K miles...been reading a LOT on this forum, pelican's, and 101 Projects (which i absolutely love). Just spent time looking all over it and cleaning mostly although I already fixed a little surface rust @ the battery compartment...Car runs pretty strong and in good shape, but the PO didn't keep maintenance records ;-( Car is lowered to Euro spec. I'll mostly be street driving, but will try an autocross in the spring for sure...Here is my project list in order I think I'll do them that I've compiled so far.
Brakes - Pads OK, will replace lines and flush fluid
Engine - will adjust valves + replace oil. Gas lines look replaced (have a wrapping around them, not just rubber). Run some Techtron asap
Ignition - will replace spark plugs, cap/rotor, air filter, and plug wires while I do the valves
Tranny - replace fluid w/Swepco and adjust
Body - door seals on body need replacing
Suspension - replace sway bar bushings (a few are torn), turbo tie rods when ultimately needed. I have bilstiens front and boge rears which seem fine now.
Engine - replace cylinder head temp guage w/2 wire
Bunch of little things like aim the H5 headlights (eventually go H5s)
What am I missing? Did I miss anything on the order?

- consider putting in speed bleeders while bleeding the brakes. Makes bleeding them the next time much easier
Tranny - replace fluid w/Swepco and adjust
- make sure you get the filler plug loose before draining the old gear oil.
Suspension - replace sway bar bushings (a few are torn), turbo tie rods when ultimately needed. I have bilstiens front and boge rears which seem fine now.
- Lots can be done to refresh the suspension. Original rubber torsion bar bushings are most likely hard and have flowed out of shape since 85. Elephant racing polybronze bushings are a nice upgrade. Check the front cross brace between the two forward a-arm pick up points for rust. Three rubber plugs can be removed and some poking around for soft spots should give you an idea. Corner balance, alignment, and new stick tires would be good too.
85 was a good year :-)

You're on the right track! I also suggest an exhaust upgrade! Love the sound of a throaty muffler on a 911. There's a clip of my B&B on my rennwebsite. Under Islandmanpa.

If you click on a members name, there is a drop down with ways to view profile, send message, send PM, etc.... also includes access to listed websites. Here's mine:

Maybe a new fuel filter?
New tie ends until you replace with turbo tie rods. If you count the threads on the tie rod exposed, you can put the new tie rod in with the same alignment.
Nice low mileage car!

Congrats on the purchase, welcome. Nice sports seats! Looks like you have compiled a good list, I have a couple things to add if I may:
Great suggestion, change it soon, who knows the last time it was done.
Yeah, you can get it close but I'd still check the alignment, especially since it's an unknown car with "Euro ride height. . . "
I personally would not want mismatched shocks, look into getting Bilsteins for the rear as well when you tackle the rear suspension, they luckily are a bit easier to change than the fronts.
Check the clutch adjustment.
Check compression while you have the plugs out if you can.
Make sure you have a spare fanbelt (and the tools to do the emergency change if necessary!) and that your existing one is in good shape and at the correct tension.
Make sure you buy a spare DME relay and keep it in your glovebox.
Monitor your oil consumption!
Have fun and enjoy your car! Don't hesitate to ask questions here.
I may have forgotten something, I'll post if I think of anyting else.
