Default Some Questions - 911SC

I'm looking at an 83 SC. I pretty knowledgeable about the car, however there are a couple of small items I have questions about...no big deal, just more for my curiosity.

1. There are no fog lights on the car, however there is a fog light switch inside. Does this seem right, or did someone replace the front spoiler and not install the fog lights? And is it possible to add the fog lights.

2. Headlight washers. Same question as above...but I don't care about adding them.

3. At night with the lights on, it seems very dark inside the car. Mostly by the fan controls. Is this normal? Whats supposed to light up in there.

4. The rear hood has a turbo tail on it. The hood is too heavy to stay open. Does anyone else with a turbo tail have this problem?

5. When I push the window control levers up...the windows go down. I assume they are installed upside down?

Like I said...silly stuff...not at all show stoppers for me, but I'm just curious.

I dont recall the fan controls (the ***** down in front of the shifter under the dash?) to have ever been lighted..I could be wrong..however, if you are talking about the slider controls on the dash, there are lights, if not mistaken in 3 of the four corners, if not all 4, that plug into that face plate..it's been a little while since I was back in there but I know I had to change a couple of those bulbs out to get them to light up..got 'em at Pelican.

It does sound like your window switches are in upside down..

What fog lamp switch are you refering to? I used to think mine had one until I found out that was for the power mirror selector (Left or Right)!! Where is the switch located and what does it look like?

Matt,
For the heavier tail you need to replace your current hood support with a dual version available from Performance Products or Pelican.

Front fog lights were standard on SCs but they may have been removed. If the wires were not cut off replacing them should not be a big deal at all there is a just a bracket that bolts on with three bolts and the light mounts to it with one bolt. The wires just plug in to the light assembly.
I have the same problem with my Carrera tail on my SC. I don't think headlight washers were standard, at least not on my 1980.

If the headlight washers were not installed on the car...would it still have the washer button on the dash?

There are no holes on the front spoiler. Would I have to drill holes for the wiring to go through. I guess I need to look at one.

I think the fog lights were an option...both my car and my friend's SC have the switch but no foggies.

Is it a ROW car or US car? My euro 78 had no provisions for fog lights. Does the car have a rear fog light? (popular/required on Euro cars)

The washers would be in the bumper, not the spoiler.

Or you can just get another standard support piston and fab a little spacer to double it up with some bolts on either end of the hood brackets. An hour job.

That's what I was thinking. But I don't see any damage to the sheet metal inside the trunk. Everything looks nice.

Hi Matt...congrats on the new car

1- Fog lamps, white, were optional...as they wrote at the SC sales brochure "Customizing your Porsche the Porsche Way"...

2- Headlight washers were "STANDARD"...your car left the factory with them!

3- I think there are no lights there but I'm not 100% sure.

4- As Ulrichd said...you have to replace (cheap!) the engine lid's strut...the hood struts are suppose to be replaced from time to time either. A new shock will hold everything up (including the whale tail)

5- I'd say your window regulators are installed in a inverted way!

Take care...

Plenty of people selling or even giving front bumpers away! With a little patience, you can probably find one w/holes for the washers.

Seller of fine used halon and halotron fire extinguishers!
