Post oil pressure

I have a 76 euro with 37k on a complete rebuild. The owner's manual states 55 at 80c/170f degrees 5500 rpm.My car has been around 45 using a 10/40 non synth oil.I put in 10/40 before winter, but it has been very mild in NJ,50-60 degrees, just wondering if the oil grade it too light. Also this might be a stupid question all my gauges or euro,km,temp does this effect the oil pressure #s.What kind of oil press #s is everyone getting in thier cars?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

You should be following the oil weight recommended in your owners manual. I use Mobil 1 10W30 in my 911's during the winter, and Mobil 1 15W50 for the rest of the year. You should be OK with dino 10W40 during NJ winters.

The rule of thumb on oil pressure is 1 Bar (14.7 psi) for each 1000 rpm. My 2 911's run about 4 Bar at freeway cruising speed (3200-3400 rpm).

One of my 911's is also a Euro model with Euro guages. I sent the speedo to North Hollywood Speedo to have it calibrated and converted to MPH. Your Euro guages should have no effect on your oil pressures, unless you have a defective guage or sending unit.

Hi,

I also get the thumb rule 1bar per 1000 rpm. I also get 8-10bar with cold oil, only when the oil has warmed up then the pressure relief valve will limit oil pressure to about 5.5 bar.

Years ago I had low oil pressure indication ( 4 bar instead of 5.5) and I traced the problem down to the pressure sensor. Check that!!

Just forgot... I use fully synthetic oil 10/60 Motul, but before I used Castrol GTX, and I do not remember significant pressure changes.
