Default Type of Oil for 1987 911 Carrera Cab

Ok so I know this is really newbie of me but I just wanna double check so I dont put in the wrong kind. I have an 87 911 Carrera Cab, what kind of oil should I add? The mark is currently between min and max when hot and idling. Thanks!

oshin11, you never said where you are located. If in Southorn Cal, I would use the 20w50 Valvoline VR1 racing oil. Cost here in San Antonio is $2.89 a quart. I did mine Wednesday at 2983 mile (always do at 3,000 mi or less). Always use a Mahle OC-54 or Porsche filter. Pelican has the OC-54 for around $8-9 bucks. Other brands do not have the bypass capabilities of the Mahle and Porsche filters. Do not skimp on the oil filter....too costly.

Oshin11, another comment. If you find that the PO used Mobil 1, I suggest you continue with it. You can change form one oil to another, but do not do it every other oil change, i.e., if PO used Castrol for example, you can go to Valvoline or some other oil, but if you do make a note of it and continue with whatever you change it to. I carry a small 5X8 inch notebook in my glove box and enter everything I do to the car, i.e., oil changes, brake line replacement, alternator replacement, spark plugs, etc., along with the mileage and date changed. This is a quick reference for me so i don't have to pull my file in the house. When I bought my 88 Carrera, i spent a couple of days going through the 4 inch stack of receipts in the main file and entered every one I could find in the little book. That provides a ready reference for me from the time it was bought to the present.
