Engine firewall pad
My engine firewall pad is sort of sagging and laying on the motor near the top and brittle in other parts. Can i just rip this out? is there some way to re-glue it to the metal?

reglue if you want it to last a while longer - could be weeks or months
prob. best to remove it and suffer the noise for a while - prob. already getting same noise.
easiest to do a new one with engine out

If it is falling down, I would remove it. As stated, it may increase the noise level a bit. If any of it comes loose , it will definitely be sucked into the fan and cause considerable heartache and damage and unless detected quicly, could damage the motor. I replaced mine on the 88 Carrera by taking the air box, airflow meter, and blower motor off. It was a small pain in the butt, but worked out well. I think you get a better installation with the engine out because you have a lot more room to work.

Ripping it off do increase noise. I did it recently and yes, I definitely can hear much more noise to the level I love to have the pad back but I am too lazy doing so.
I the past, I used dynamat on a diff car. It didn't last that long. It's not that the whole thing came off but about 30% of it came off after months.

What is this thing "noise" you all refer to coming from the engine bay of an air-cooled 911? It is music to my ears, there's a cd player or something in my dash that I'm not even sure works! The PO of my car sent a new, uninstalled sound pad with the car, it's still in it's original packaging!

Some guys just leave it out. I did for about a year, but I wanted it stock since I concours my car. It's up to the individual. In many cases, the old glue is a brownish color and doesn't look very good on light colored cars like mine (White). If you own a brown one, it might look OK.

I have a brown car and it still looked like crap with old bits of glue and the like. iT Really cleans up the look of the engine bay with a new black one. Can't say the reflective silver ones look to good on a brown car though.
