Default newbie question

I am picking up my first Pcar next weekend. A 80 911sc. first of the many question to come, possibly the most annoying question on any car forum:

will these wheels fit??? the car is original suspension. My future plans include bilsteins with sways once the current set up is no longer servicable.

Porsche 911 Boxster OEM 17" wheelsI have a set of (4) Porsche Boxster OEM wheels, 17" for sale! These were taken off my Boxster S, and replaced with a new rim set, so they are originals!. They are in great condition with no warping and or road rash. The fronts are factory size: 205/50/17 and rears: 255/40/17. Original OEM part #: #986.362.162.05 and the
wheel spec is 8.5Jx17-ET50

thank you

Nope, The offset is not the same, you could do it but you will need to purchase spacers.

Hi mrtoro,

Welcome aboard, and congrats on your new 911! You will have plenty of questions, no doubt. You will find that the "Search" feature of this board is an excellent tool to answering most of your questions. Of course you can still post here, but the archives really can answer most of your initial concerns ...of which we all had when we were first timers
Enjoy, and post a pic of your new ride!!

Welcome to Rennlist. Can we see what your car looks like? I just got an SC this year and Rennlist has been invaluable.

I have not even picked it up yet. My wife and i are flying to Phoenix saturday morning. PPI came back great with 5% leakdown and everything else very tight. All records which makes me feel better. We will drive the car back almost 1000miles over the weekend back to Denver. Planning on checking out the grand canyon, never been there before. It should be a very fun initiation weekend. Will post pics on monday after an uneventful drive hopefully. I am already checking into suspension options. Need something a little more suited for DE and some autox.

There are some high quality repro's you can get or just use spacers.

You'll find that the fuchs are going to be hard to replace - they are light and strong. I'd recommend painting the inside of the paddles balck to offset the polish a little. I think that - or even the factory finish (black insets) look good on that color car. Congrats. What size are they?

I agree with g-50's take.

There is a pic HERE of my wheels with the black finish behind the paddles.

great call. i like the lok with a little black, especially on a red car. Do you know where I can get the black covers which go in front of the rear wheels to protect from road rash?
cant wait till saturday when I pick it up. Just got the word from the PPI shop that the alternator is rebult and everything is ready.

Default cant wait

My wife and I are flying to Phoenix 7.00AM to pick up my first Pcar. I can hardly wait. We will drive through some amazing roads especially the Black canyon in Colorado. I think it makes for a perfect get to know each other drive. Just in case something goes wrong with the car, is there anyone of you Pcar fanatics between Phoenix and Denver? How much oil consumption should I be ready for considering this car came back with an avg of 4.5% on leakdown test? I will definately take one quart with me. I think the first mod will be the SSI and M&K route.

Cheers
Cenk

Hi Cenk,

I can feel the anticipation in your words ...congrats, and post when you arrive with your new baby!

The leakdown doesn't tell you about oil consumption rate --e.g. you could have a good, tight combustion chamber and have shot valve guides (the latter leading to high consumption). Just remember that to determine an accurate oil level you must check oil level with the dipstick (you can compare to what the guage says to get a feel for the guage-dipsick relationship) AND check only when the car is nice and hot hot hot, AND on level ground WITH the engine idling. Forgive me if you already know all these things ... just included it in case ya didn't

Then just check oil level every other tank (what, about 600 miles or so?) and try and estimate your consumption. I assume the PPI went well since you have leakdown numbers, so the car's belts, tires, brakes, etc should be sound for the drive home, right? Enjoy!!!

no i did not know of the proper way of checking the oil level so thank you for the heads up. We made it back. it was a long drive with one close call but the car is beatiful and in much better condition than I anticipated. is there a simple check up for valve guide wear?

cheers
cenk
