Default Best mods?

What are the best mods to do for a 911 3.2? I've got a stock '84.

What mods feel like they work? I heard an exhaust and chip upgrade is a basic step - but what does it feel like? Worth it?

How major is it to change from an EFI system to carbeurettors? Anyone done it? Worth it?

My car's done 115,000 miles now and has never been a garage queen so by my reckoning she's a candidate for a bit of "tuning".

I'd like to achieve about 250-270 horsepower.

Take it to Ninemeister, a well known forum sponsor.

You can also buy "Porsche 911 Performance Handbook" by Bruce Anderson.

In general, I would tackle the suspension, brakes and transmission before trying to get more hp from you motor. You need the former working very well to handle any power improvement. It's also much cheaper to improve the performance of your car by tuning its handling, braking, and shifting than to rebuild your motor to acheive higher hp which in of itself leads to working on the suspension, brakes, and transmission. Kinda circular, but I think you get it.

Suspension and ride height adjustment, as well as removing weight. Biggest bang-for-buck, IMHO, as these mods do nothing short of transforming the entire feel of the car. Adding HP is just too costly and for what few ponies you get, and you are still hampered by a "loose" and heavy chassis.

The first question you have to answer is "what is your goal?"

(1) Do you want to race, so you need that last bit of hp down the last stretch?

(2) Do you want to drag race, so you need all hp you can afford?

(3) Do you want to just *know* that you have more than some other cars?

(4) Do you want the car to feel differently, even if it's not all that much faster?

If it's (1), then you need to see the rules of the club(s) that you'll be racing with. Even the slightest mod may put you in a modified class where you won't be competive until you've done them all. And, even before that, everyone always says to spend money on driving instruction first.

If it's (2), well, you'll never get there from here.

If it's (3), I'm sure there are tons of people out there who will take your money and tell you how much hp their product will add until you've lumped them all together and doubled your hp (on paper).

If it's (4), go for exhaust first. My lowely 73.5 911 seems a heck of a lot faster than a lot of newer stuff I've driven or own simply because of the sound. Then go for suspension so you can rattle your bones and kidneys with the rest of us.

Mine is used for street only....so my mods are very basic....Cup style open air box, factory muffler modified with second outlet (both of these make a beautiful sound together), cat bypass, the rest of my mods are purely asthetic (Recarro LS seats, Matter 1/2 cage, Ducktail, and Removal of rear Bumperettes).....added together the car feels much quicker...I know it isn't....but is sure is fun to drive.

whats your budget & where are you going to use the car most??

for "basic" mods i'd suggest taking some weight out which you can do for no cost. next upgrade to turbo-spec brakes which i believe are a bolt on proposition. then cat bypass and muffler for a few (noticeable) extra hp plus a glorious sound. from there the sky is the limit.

I would get the ssi/m&k combo for the exhaust, it really brings the car to life

I second that. It also "adds lightness," and it sounds a helluva lot faster. A nice weight loss is also available from removing your AC, if you don't need it. It's easy to do, and makes your car easier to work on.
