Just bought an 88 Carrera that has been retrofitted w/ 134A AC. However, AC line is crimped, so effectively no AC. Not a problem for this time of year. Rather than remove the AC, if I remove the AC belt, will that result in a HP increase?
Thank you in advance!

There are four 13mm head bolts holding the compressor to a mounting plate and another 13mm head adjustment bolt in a horixontal position on the right side of the compressor mounting plate. I use a 6 inch extension (or longer) for the 4 bolts and a 13mm open/box wrench on the horizontal one. Be sure to back the bolt all the way out, but don't take it out. You can use whatever is easiest for you. First I loosen the horizontal bolt to remove tension from the A/C belt. The lossen the 4 bolts on the compressor and slide all the way to the left. If it won't slide all the way, keep loosening bolts as sometimes they may stick and not slide well. Then remove the belt or replace it if you have the A/C fixed. If you just want to remove it and are not going to fix it, just cut it off.

Keep in mind that you'll get only a very small increase in power (not noticeable). After you fix the AC, the belt needs to remain, because you should run the AC system at least once every couple weeks for 10 minutes (even in the winter) to keep the seals moist and the system from losing the freon.
