Question HID Upgrade?

I have been interested to upgrade lighting to HID for a while, I've looked at the HID kits that Vertex sells, and I've seen group buy deals shown here. I was just wondering, I've heard that it's illegal for you to install HIDs if its not a factory install. Is this true? Something about an illegal beam pattern or whatever? or is this just for certin Headlamp Housings? Would it be better to install them in H4's or H5's if you could?

The only really legal HID upgade is the ones that come with an auto-leveling capability. Factory HIDs also have a different beam pattern, low beam "high" SHARP cutoff.

I purchased RX330 projector type adapters that include the low beam "shading" from Ebay and mounted them separate from the regular headlight assembly on my Ford E-350. I don't see how, where, you could do that with a pre-996 911.

the length of the hid bulb doesn't focus in the h4 housing, waste of money.
