You do have gas in the tank right???

Yes, there's plenty of gas in the tank. Thanks for the info on the CAT. I will replace the O2 sensor if it is bad.

Yes. I actually replaced all those recently so they are good. I rechecked the connections just to make sure.

Thanks

What is a CHT? The car does not start cold or hot.

C=cylinder...H=head...T=temperature sensor.

Get the DME relay first to start with....as stated, it's always good to have a spare.

My dad had his DME relay go on his 86 once it sucked. the car basically died. Now we both carry an extra one in our glove box (I have an 88 944).

UPDATE 8/21/2006.

I replaced the DME relay and unfortunately the car still won't start. I will have to tow it to Omega Motorsports here in Jacksonville so Steve can figure out what is wrong.

This car has 243,000 and has been ultra reliable until now. Oh well, we'll see what's up. I miss driving it terribly.

My guess - Bad reference sensor on the flywheel. They get heated and cooled - insulation cracks and bang - no signal back to the DME. Relay was a good thing to replace- now keep the other in the glove box.

I'd replace all three sensors while you can - It's pricey - but they are subjected to alot of heat and such.

Thank you Jeremy for the advice on the refernce sensor.

With the engine at 243,000 I'm starting to wonder if it could be an internal problem?

What do you think?

If the plugs looked OK - then no - usually an internal problem is proceeded by a bark, bang or knock and then lots of smoke.

Assuming it will still run over -

I vote for the Cylinder Head Temp. Either that or maybe a reference sensor. Both easy to check. Check ohms on the CHT (left side of engine by blower, it is the white connector on the top of the three connector tree). Ohms should be around 1.5k at summer temps. The reference sensor will be a little different, the wires usually tell you if it is tired. You know, cracked and falling appart. If the cylinder head temp is the problem. You can jumper the connector with a paper clip once the car is warm and it will run fine.

Thanks guys. There was definitely no bang or knock and definitely no smoke. I'm glad to hear that!!! I can handle electronics.

I really do appreciate all the help.

I love this site. You all are great.
