Putting 1975 whale tail on 1982 911 SC.

Drew,
Sounds like you may have the duck tail already. The Carrera tail is more effective, if you're looking for aerodynamic impact instead of looks. In either case, you know you need to add the rubber chin spoiler, if it's not already there, to maintain front/rear aerodynamic balance. Documentation on the various combinations is in Paul Frere's "Porsche 911 Story".

Do you mean a ducktail? If so, I've been thinking about retro styling my sc with 73 RS bumpers and maybe a spoiler. Apparently the engine bay panel (the one with the stickers on) is different - but this may only be an issue if you change to the earlier bumpers too.
Then again - I may have got the wrong end of the stick. If the 75 spoiler is a flat, tea tray type I don't think you'll have any problems at all.

I just put a replica '75 or '76 tail (the original whale tail - not the wider IROC tail) on my '80 SC and encountered no problems with the A/C condenser, compressor, etc.
The biggest problem was not knowing how badly it would fit (i.e., the edge gaps) until I got it home from the swap meet and put it on. The fit was really bad. After many hours of work, however, the gaps are about the same as for the original decklid and I know a lot more about working with fiberglass than I ever expected to.
All that said, I really like the look and the car seems a bit less nervous at highway speed (around here that's only about 70-75 max). I hope to "test" the effects more thoroughly at some DE's this Summer.

I think he means the '75-'77 911 turbo tail (pre-intercooler)........I was thinking about adding one of these, but it seems they are going for about $800 on ebay....money i'd rather spend elsewhere for right now. Either way, post pics when you have it painted/installed, I'm curious to see how it looks on a narrow body 911.

I will post pictures but it should look simular to the 911SC Weissach, which I think is great looking. The tail used on the Weissach was the 1975 Carrera tail which is like mine but without the little vent in front of the lip. My car is an 82 911SC with Rosewood paint.
