Default BATTERY MAINTAINER QUESTION

Can I use my new battery maintainer from the 996/997 that plugs into cigarette lighter in my 1988 slant 930 turbo? TIA

YES - just check that the cigarete lighter is live with ignition turned off - otherwise a fix is required.

I had purchased the Porsche Battery Maintainer for my ex-993. It used the lighter to connect and had (obviously) a mail lighter plug. The lighter in my 1989 930 isn't connected with the ignition off so it couldn't work that way. I connected directly to the battery instead. On the battery side I have a female cigarette lighter plug so the stock Battery Maintainer connection still works.

Default I tried to use my Porsche battery maintainer from my '00 Boxster S...

on my '88 911. But, odd things happened: (a) Maintainer light would not shut off (Battery not being trickle charged?) and the charger cover would get warm over time. (b) The window switches would operate although the ignition was not on.

So I gave up on the idea.

Is this because the lighter is inoperative without the key (as is the case for my car)?
