Post The best Porsche ever made..

Pardon me if you've been through this type of thread before.
Me and a friend were wondering what is the best Porsche ever made. Race car or street. For me it came down to the 917/30. 1760lbs /w 1100 reliable hp. Turn the screw and you can have 1500hp for a minute or so. http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/quartmile.html gives 6.54s for the 1/4 mile with that weight/horsepower, not that they geared the cars for the 1/4. Top speed of 240mph. Not the prettiest car Porsche ever made, but those numbers far outweigh any advantage any other Porsche could have. I would like to see the 917/30 drivetrain in the latest GT1 chassis. O_O Can you imagine driving a car that fast? I cannot.
My buddy thinks the 959 is the pinnacle, soon to be replaced with the Carrera GT.
What do you think is the best Porche ever built?

If you define a sports car as an "all purpose" device, the 911RS Touring. It could run in traffic in Los Angeles and win its class at LeMans and thirty some odd years later, it is still commands top dollar. More than any other car it represents Porsches complete design philosophy -
fast, light, reliable, bulletproof, thoughtfully engineered cars, with room for luggage and the girlfriend!

You never get out of a 911 tired or unhappy.

Cool

I recently visited Paul Russell Co (formerly Gullwing)in Essex MA. with the Northeast Porsche Club. Besides being home to 300k (no misprint) Mercedes restorations to owners such as Ralph Lauren, they had 2 959's in the shop. Supposedly only 6 in North America. The fly yellow version has to be it for me. Outrageous curves and power; the perfect design.

959 definitely. BTW, 959s were only originally made in red, silver, and white (and I think there's a black one out there too)......no yellow.

How about the 911R and the 2.7RS. How about just the 911, period. It has stood the test of time.

Thumbs up

For me it has to be the ultimate Porsche hot rod the 935!! I was to Watkins Glen for Porshes 50th and saw every Porsche there was. From the humble little Gmund coupe to the latest GT1 Leman racer, but nothing shook me like these. If you have ever been to the Glen, you know how to get on to the straight and down to turn one, left left and then back up the hill. Well these 935's Garretson's, John Paul Jr's did'nt matter, when they came on to the straight..........that was it. From about 90 mph to 185 in less then 1300 feet these things were bullet's. Handles like crap, but that made them all the more fun to watch. Mike.

Well, everyone here keeps telling me "the latest one - that you can afford" so long as it is a Porsche.
