What did you use to recharge, R12? If so, where did you get it and who did you get to put it in?

I'd have to agree with you. When I bought my Carrera I was basically writing off the a/c as being useless. But I've driven many a day here now in this 100F plus heat and its kept me quite comfortable, even in stop and go traffic. This car never ceases to amaze me.....

I've used HC12a in place of R12 to good effect. here's a source...
http://www.foxtoolsupply.com/HC-12a.htm
here's EPA's discussion (is it just me or are they unable to provide clear advice?)...

I've also heard of people successfully using "Hotshot" (R-414b)...

Hi,
I recharged my system with the updated freon plus a sealer and conditioner you can buy at any auto store. Pretty easy to do. The trick to getting cool temps from the vent is to drive at highway speeds. I was amazed this weekend, while driving to the NJ shore at mid-day with temps nearing 100, the a/c just cranked. I had to turn it down. In stop and go traffic, however, this thing blows mildly warm/cold air. So, keep up the speed and you should be ok.

I finally filled my AC with R-12 after I pulled a vacuum to make sure it doesnt have any major leaks. I didn't switch over to barrier hoses and I know it will leak out over the next few years.

You can convert over to R-134A, but it will require some modifications. i preferred to leave it with R-12.
