I sold my first PCar (1979SC Targa) a few year back, and am now trying to find it again. I only have a portion of the VIN: "9119210096" and want to run a carfax to see if it is still on the road. What are the preceeding alphanumerics for the 17 digit VIN?
Thanks,

Just learned through varous Google searches that pre-1981 vehicles did not have 17 digit VINs. So the question now becomes - any recommendations regarding how to locate the car?
Thanks!

the vin you posted is your entire vin for the car.
it is within the vin ranges listed for that year on this site:
http://www.adelgigs.com/911vin%20numbers.shtml
And unforutnately you cannot get a carfax for a car older than 1981 either

I actually kept it in storage for a few years, then decided to auction it off in CA back in 2002. It needed a lot of work at the time, so I felt okay getting rid of it. Now that I am in a position to grow my PCar stable, I wish that I had kept it. I fear that it was sold as a "parts car" as it was bought for $5.5K. It had 130,000 miles on it and needed a rebuild, new paint, and some other things.
I think I'll take your advice and try to find the records form the auctioneer. Thanks!

It failed a smog check in Cambbell California last October, 3 times. That may be a place to start.
