I am now a proud new owner of an '88 911.....
I picked up "cloud" (or as she was called by a previous owner) yesterday morning. Navy blue interior, factory white color fuch alloys.
I had a PPI done at a local shop a few days ahead. It passed with flying colors. Range of leakdown was 2% to 4%. Compression from 140 to 145 psi. The shop appears to be a very honest shop with lots of quality cars. I think it is called European Auto Repair in Vista, CA.
The car has a rebuilt engine with about 29K miles. New tires. Immaculate exterior and interior condition.
Extensive maintenance records, including the complete parts list for the engine rebuild (OEM parts, machining by Ollies- a Panorama advertiser).
The only dissapointing thing- I had to drive back in hot bumper to bumper traffic on our maiden ride. I had a much better time today.
I tried to post photos, but I couldn't reduce their size sufficiently.

Congratulations! Looking forward to pics. I believe the shop you mentioned is European MotorSports "German Auto Repair", owned & operated by Joe Vampola in Vista CA.
His shop services my 82 SC. You couldn't have picked a better shop.
Joe races a 912 and two Lola open wheel cars, Formula Ford I believe, but I could be wrong. He also races several of his customer's cars.
Besides being happy to have his shop maintain my car, I'm real pleased w/the paint shop he reccomended. I posted pics here several days ago - "JUSWANNASHOWOFFNEWPAINTJOB" (on page 2 if you care to see).
Hope you enjoy your car

I finally took some low resolution photos....
BTW- Does this generation 911 typically have a rough idle? The car runs strong and returns to idle well when decelerating, but occassionally the rpm drops100 or 200 rpm at idle. Is this normal?

Welcome, and you know you've just purchased the absolute best year EVER for 911s (not that I'm biased or anything ...just kidding, all years are great)! If you haven't discovered the Pelican BBS yet, you should search the archives over there too. Both boards are a great source, but there seems to be a bit more info on the older 911s there. Do a search (both boards), using 'rough idle', 'idle control valve', 'idle position switch', etc. and you will find lots of threads. Off the top of the head, you could have an issue with your 'idle position switch' (checked via a multimeter), or your ICV (Idle Control Valve) could be sticking and need cleaning, among other things. If you don't have a Bentley Manual...highly recommended to supplement these boards. Good luck, happy reading, and don't worry about asking questions if you can't find what you're looking for in the archives.
