To snorkel or not
I get nervous about all the idiots on the roads around here. I keep going back and forth about a 3rd 'snorkel' brake light. I know the car's lines are better without, but it would be nice knowing the idiots see me when braking.
Opinions ? (I think I already know what the percentage of 'no,don't do it' I'm going to get !

One of the former owners of my 84 Cab did the CHMSL update (Center High-Mount Stop Light, for the unwashed heathen like myself who had to look it up ).
Personally, I could live without it, but you do get used to it.

Brake lights on 911's are just not that big... I'd also go along with the suggestion by Fred to do the center mounted 3rd brake light. You could also do the light used by Porsche for 1986 and 1988 where the 3rd brake light is in inside the rear window at the top of the window (though maybe that's what Fred is referencing above verses the periscope light). You get used to it (or, more likely, get used to looking around it) and it does help visibility of your brake lights to driver's behind you.
I don't mind the periscope either. Pretty goofy looking thing that is kinda cool in it's own odd way... Though that unit might be best only for Cabs and the rear window light is less obtrusive.
Go for it if it makes you feel better. That mod won't hurt the car's value if you keep the install clean and neat.

I think if I'm gonna do one I'll do the the upper rear window interior one. It will look totally stock and is less goofy looking than the periscope. Since I have a whale tail coupe I wouldn't have to cut the engine cover or tail at all.
Thanks folks

FYI, here's a recent post with the same exterior CHMSL, but on a (turbo?) tail SC:

Yeah, if you have a coupe, I'd probably do the interior one, providing it's not obscured by any tail (otherwise, what's the point?).
I was told mine was from an '86, honestly don't know personally.

Mine is in the rear inside window and it's a pain in the butt.
It sits exactly in the same spot as cars behind you.
Can you not get the 964 version where there is a little spoiler/sunshade on the outside?

3rd Brake Light
I don't care for it but have it on my '86 Cab. and think it's a good idea. Our cars brakelights are, simply put, quite low. With everyone either on the phone or doing who knows what while they "drive" these days....any addition to fen off someone from becoming well aquainted with the back end of one of our cars seems to make sence to me. I'd put it on!!!
