Default Back Seat Leather Straps

My straps that hold my seat backs up have broken and I've bought replacement straps. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about replacing these? It looks like I may have to take the carpet off of the back of the seats. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yep. You will need to pull the carpeting away from the corner enough to get the old remaining piece of leather loose and attach the new ones. I forget if they were stapled or screwed on. Don't let it intimidate you, it will be easy.

I saw a new leather strap set on evilbay and it looked oem. It had those little nail looking tacks. I think you use a hammer.

I replaced my nails with some small wood screws, using the nail holes. I think it will stay put now longer than the nails.

Here's a little update to my recent project. Pictures are attached.

The process is simple. I first pulled the carpet back from each of the two corners as shown.

There are only 2 staples and a little spray mount holding the carped to the seat back. Once you have the carpet pulled away, simply pull the old leather strap out (held in my 2 nails) and clean the area around it.

I made new straps with leather and snaps that I purchased at a local leather shop (all for around $10). This was made easy with the templates of the old straps.

I then used two stainless screws to attach the straps to the seat backs.

I used a staple gun to staple the carpet back in place.

I hope this helps anyone who is going to venture into doing this little project. It's really very easy and cheap if you just take your time. Good luck and let me know if you'd like some help!

Joe,

Where did you get the replacement straps from?

I bought some leather and snaps from a local leather shop. You can also purchase these from Pelican Parts (pelicanparts.com). I replaced all of my straps for about $10 (both the ones on the seat backs and the ones on the firewall). It's easy to make your own, but you can also order new.
