Question Porsche 911 Used Body Parts

Can anyone refer me to some of the larger Porsche dismantlers specializing in used 911 body parts. I'm a newbie to this board and a new Porsche owner (only 2 days) and I need a rear deck lid for my 1987 Carrera Cabriolet so I can loose the factory whale tail. Thank you for your time.

Try Gary at Oklahoma Foreigh 1-800-462-2446 or Al Zim in Bedford, TX, 817-267-4451 even though he isn't a dismantler, he may know of one.

The two I know of are DC automotive in North Carolina and LA Porsche dismantlers in Los Angles. You could also put a WTB (want to buy) ad in the Pelican Parts Used 911 parts board. Have you also looked into just taking out the wing and putting a used grille in the deck lid? That way you will not have to repaint a new decklid.

If you remove the tail you will have to repair (fill) the holes in the existing deck lid, which will require a re-paint. You'd be better off with a new one.

Default to tail or not to tail???

Hey Evans,

I have a decklid from my '86 cab. collecting dust in my basement. If your interested in talking...send me an email. I also have the 3rd brakelight if you're interested, all in excellent condition. I bought a car with no whale tail and I wanted one so I purchased a decklid w/turbo tail, had it painted and 4 bolts later...I was happy.

Mike

I have seen one where the owner filled the holes with color-matched bumper plugs and it looked completely stock to a non-porsche person. To my mind, that is a budget alternative until a new decklid could be found.

Evans, what color is your car and what type tail does it have (turbo, Carrera, tea tray)? I have a Grand Prix White original lid in perfect condition I might be willing to trade for a similar condition Carrera Tail in the same shade of white.

I've got 4 here. What color is your car?

Also, it might not "pay" to have to ship a deck lid unless it's a deck lid that you plan to straighten out/paint due to the work necessary to package/crate up the deck lid so that it's not damaged.
