Default alarm question

I have an '87 Carrera and when I set the alarm and try to make it go off all I hear is a clicking sound, like the sound a turn signal makes. This goes for about thirty seconds and stops. Any ideas where I should start to find the problem? Thanks!

The clicking sound is probably the relay trying to honk the horn. The alarm has it's own horn mounted on the front suspension crossmember under the car. It could be broken or missing. If you jack the front up and support it on stands you can remove the "tray" that protects the fuel pump. Once that is out of the way (about a 5 min job at the worst) you can put a meter or test lamp on the contacts and see if any power is getting there.....

Cheers

Thanks for the insight. I'll take a look tonight. This is my first Porsche and I have a lot to learn!
