Try PartsHeaven, they pulled the clutch cable to trans bracket for me when mine snapped last year.

I rebuilt my axles last year. I think I'll be retorquing my CV joints soon. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hey Brett you will be the perfect test. Do you know the milage when you did your axles ? I have a feeling you will be able to tighten them a fair bit with your torque wrench ..

Axle rebuild on 5/22/05 at 46,219 miles. Now at 52,734 miles. I'll report back when I check the CV joints. I won't be driving it since the car's parked to drop the engine and do some work.

Bret

If they drop the engine they have to undo the axles anyway so you may never know .. oh well...

Ah, but there is no "they" involved. I'll be dropping the engine myself, and I don't anticipate removing the transmission, so I will retorque the bolts and get back to the board on it.

As a follow up,I thought it wise to fill you in on the outcome of this issue. I got all the used parts for the throttle system(I got the whole thing and ended up needing it all) I got the bracket that bolts to the transaxel, I got new cv boots and cleaned the cv's and axles. I boughts new bolts to replace the ones that came loose since some were bent and 2 were broken. It all went together and I also replaced the carpets whilt I was at it. Replaced the exhaust with the origional stock setup (I'll miss the raunchy exhaust I had on it, BAD)
Everything works as it should other than the need to adjust the throttle a smidge. All the bolts were loose on the other side as well. I would suggest checking these bolts on the axles often. More than the brake pad check intervals. Car looks newer inside now and I am happy. I don't have good floor mats yet so I don't let anyone is it yet.

My axle just came undone this afternoon

P/S outer CV bolts backed out when I was making a right turn at a stop light.

Was about to engage 2nd and I heard a bank, rattlt, rattle and tolled into a nice shady parking lot and had the car towed home.

Looked underneath and the axle shaft is resting in the trailing arm with no marks or tears in the boots.

Should I replace the bolts or just pack some grease and re-tourque?

I'd just pack grease and retorque if it never hit the ground. I tell ya this is coming up way too often these days ...
Did you have the axles off at all preiously ? When I redo mine I am taking them out one at a time , spraying brake cleaner in the hole, and cleaning off the bolts. it will be a nice afternoon project while listening to the ball game...

Pete you must have an opinion on this ! what do you reccon is happening , is something going wrong during the install ?

The axles were off about 15000 miles ago.
It did not hit the ground thankfully.

You know I could probably have predicted that . But at least now we have some kind of guideline. These things should be checked at least once after a removal procedure. EVERY time I have heard of this the response is the same . The back end was out at some point before the failure.

I agree.

I plan on marking mine with white or red paint so I can visually check for any bolt movement.

That's actually a great idea. Personally I think the problem is CV joint grease getting into the threads and slowly working ou the bolt. I think you will definitely see movement . I may do the same afte cleaning out the holes and reort back any movement.

I need some Asprin now after reading all this stuff about tightening down the CV bolts

Here is a good thread on Dorkiphus
