Default Windshield wiper - whacked?

Here's the long pre-story: electrical gremlin...blah, blah....everything went on at once...blah, blah...wipers worked to a frenzy...whap - whap - whap! they said. No smoke at least. Replaced battery - tossed battery disconnect thing (probably Lucas anyway). Now: everything works fine except wipers. Fuse OK. Column switch OK. I can hear wiper motor on when it should be on. No wiper motions, and, by hand, wipers move way tooo easily by themselves.
Maybe something just came unscrewed? and I can fix it after getting Way Up behind vent blower?
Or maybe broken wiper gearbox? and two days labor?
Anyone run into this one?
Anyone ever get a used wiper assembly off ebay?
TIA (the weather is just beautiful and Watkins opens in two weeks)

John: Pull out your speedo - you'll be able to see some of the wiper mechanism through the hole...

Pete - many thanks. I pulled the speedo and clock. Undid the two screws holding the bottom of the fabric zort to the wiper bracket. The little nut & washer that held the first assembly link to the motor shaft were gone. Fixed with a nylock. Then - the motor was held on by only one bolt so it flapped up and down. That was fixed with an allenhead capscrew I had laying around. That's it.
Your suggection saved me the two days of (my) labor taking the vent fan assembly out, then the wiper assembly and then bench running it. When you guys talk - I listen. (I took pix if this ever comes up for anyone else)
All the best.

IS there any source to replace the bushings in the articulating arm assembly?
