Default Rocky Mountain Autosport okay?

I'm considering purchasing a 911 from Rocky Mountain Autosport in CO.
Never purchased a car without seeing it in person so somewhat (extremely) nervous.

Any comments good or bad about RM Autosport would be greatly appreciated
(no RM employees please....).

I was planning on having RM take the 911 to Eurosport for a PPI and 60K mi. service.

Any advice for a potential first-time 911 owner?

In 2004 when I was looking for a Carrera they had one I liked - they answered my email questions quickly, but without detail. Made me a little nervous. See if you can get a local lister to check it out for you. And of course get a PPI, preferably by a shop not of the dealership's choosing.

I live here in Colorado. I have never bought anything from Rocky Mountain Auto Sport. They have a lot of ads in the classifieds and I'm unsure of the satisfactory rate. I heard from some people that they are good. If you also want a good one out here in Colorado, I like the Stammler Imports. They are located in Boulder and I have heard that they offer great service. I mostly go there for small things and to check out the new Caymen S. My friends's mom hasn't had anything unplesant to say about them. She takes her Audi there regulary and never recieves any hassle.

I looked at a couple 993s at RMA when I was looking for mine. Skip, the owner, is a very nice guy, loves cars, but he is a sales man. I came close to buying a car from him but it just wasn't the car for me. I think it all depends on the car, history and most importantly the PPI. Eurosport is a good option for the PPI and 60k service.

I would be happy to take a look at the car since RMA is about 15 minutes from my work. I will send you a PM, so reply there as the which one it is and who I am looking at it on behalf of.

I decided to take the plunge at RMA after extensive conversations with
Eurosport and mulling over dozens of photos of the car. I think the
price was right plus I haven't had much success finding just the right
'91 turbo. Carfax was clean and history checked out.

Thanks for the offers to inspect the car - Hopefully I made the right
decision. Will let you know in a week or so.

I talked with Orrin at Eurosport about RMA a couple months ago and his opinion is that the cars are accurately represented and it's a reasonable place to do business.

I've been working with Orrin over the past few days. He's doing
the PPI. Very helpful.

Going to have transport company pickup/deliver. No time to fly &
drive myself.

Thanks

HP- sorry I didn't get to this sooner. I bought from RMA. It was not bad, as the car is pretty nice and no major mechanicals yet. I DID NOT get the original owners manual; mine was from another vehicle and the original VIN was scratched out and my car's VIN put in place of it.

The PPI was done by their mechanic and did not report cracked lights, both fogs and rear lenses. There was nothing about a severely worn driver's seat or about the rough idle. The mechanic also had to replace lights, as a high beam was out. The PPI, right or not, claimed one of the motors on the cabrio top was noisy, and RMA fixed it at their cost. The PPI also showed a bad seal on the power steering, which was fixed at my expense before delivery. The rest of the car was just fine, and survived the trip home (1200 miles) without incident. We did not deal with Orin, and the other sales guy was fairly new to RMA. I had them throw in painted wheel crests for my dissatisifed items (lights and seats).

The deal wasn't bad, and I've been very satisifed with the purchase. I only caution you about small things that people don't think about when the dream car is sitting in front of them. I flew out and planned on driving back, so I was kinda stuck if the car wouldn't have been all that when I got there. If you can, have another Rennlister check out the car before you make full payment, AND DEFINITELY GET AN INDEPENDENT PPI. Eurosport is RMA's mechanic; be careful using the dealer's own mechanic.

A-ha! That is some key info right there. Orrin's comments regarding RMA just lost some credibility.

Hawk & 911Dave - Thanks for the heads-up.

I didn't get the impression Euro and RMA were affiliated. In fact, Orrin
discovered several items which needed to be addressed (o-ring, air pump belt
and pulley, rotor, etc). Nothing shocking but still added up to over $500.
(I think they charge $125 just to vacuum the ashtray....).

RMA (and many other Porsche dealers) warned me an independent PPI mechanic may recommend costly repairs which some may deem unnecessary. Even so, we all know the value of a PPI, just have to judge the recommendations wisely.

RMA picked up the tab which I feel was the right/decent thing to do. I feel I
did my homework but you're correct - to do it again I would ask a RennFriend
to take a peek. Unfortunately, like my wife always says, I have a big
problem when it comes to cars...... Want them all yesterday.

Good luck with the purchase. Like I said, it wasn't bad, just not what I was expecting. If RMA claims they have records (receipts and such) for the car you are buying, have them fax it to you, not just the owner's manual stamps. I got NO records with my purchase so I start from square 1.
