Most lawyers charge $450 to $650 per hour. If this one knew the judge who has discretionary powers, the lawyer made easy money on this one. 108 in a 55 would have been 3 days in jail and attending traffic school. Some times plea bargaining to do community service works if not a chronic speed offender.

$450 to $650!!!

IS that Canadian? IT's very high for a typical lawyer in most of the US - except NYC or Wash DC.

$450 to $650 is high...those are usually corporate lawyer prices. I can tell you that I and most lawyers in the Tampa Bay don't charge that for speeding tickets, they charge a lot less. Criminal stuff is a different story. Usually a flat fee for criminal charges, anywhere from $1,000 to $100,000 and on up depending on the severity of the charge.

I recently got a ticket in Southwest Virginia. The trooper reduced it on the spot to 77 in a 65. I located a lawyer on the web who was near the court (I live in NC). I explained that I wanted to get out of this with no points on my driving record or insurance. He stated that as long as I did not argue with the trooper and have a "resonably" clean driving recorf that it should not be a probolem and that I would not have to go to court. Lawyer cost - $400. I will have to pay court cost and additional cost of a one day traffic school. I think is is all very reasonable considering the alternative of insurance cost increases for 3 years.
