Default Wide Body Slant Nose Cabrio???

This is my first post to the 911 forums. I really don't know that much about the differences between all of the 911's so please bare with me.

I was driving down the road yesterday eavening and saw a 911 that looked like it needed a little loving. I turned around and saw a very cool car that was being neglected. It was a wide body. In fact I think it was a Strosek or Gemballa conversion I believe. It was also a slant nose and a convertable. The guag mfaces were white from what I could see. The car had those air intakes ( like on a testarosa) just in front of the rear wheels. It als has the huge whale tail with louvers in it so I am thinking it may have some sort of heat exchanger mounted in it.
The car has been sitting, locked behind a fence with a bunch of old pick up trucks for quite some time from what I can tell. Unfortunately the drivers window was left open and God only knows how many rain storms have went through it. I will post pics as soon as I get home. If anyone has any pics of a car like this please post pics. I am trying to figure out what it is. Also, what would something like this be worth? I know thats going to be a hard question to answer without pics and more info. I left my business card in the lock on the gate so I am hoping to speak with the owner soon.

Thanks

This could be anything.

The Porsche factory made a steel slant-nose body option for the 930 (911 Turbo) for several years (the Turbo forum should have more info on this... also). This was available in Europe for many years, but only made a US option for 2-3 years (I think).

This was an extremely costly option ($25,000 or so) and relatively rare. Also cabriolet version were REALLY rare... only a handful were ever sold in US.

However, non-factory conversion kits were sold, and many people put them on both 930s and some regular 911s. These range from beautiful "near factory" conversions using steel OEM body parts, to to real pieces of plastic ****...

This was the hot Bling-mobile back in the Miami-Vice days, and alot of real sleezy gold-chain people were attracted to them..... drug dealers, atheletes, entertainment types... many of whom had no idea what a Porsche was... so individual cars can have very different histories and levels of abuse

This car might be..... a real US version factory slant-nose cab... (but probably not)

This car could be .... a "grey-market" factory slant-nose cab... (but probably not)

This car is probably.... some heinous fiberglass conversion on a clapped out 930 that is in total disrepair....

IF the car is a factory conversion, it will have all steel bodywork, and (I'm pretty sure) a unique VIN and possibly be worth something, and COULD be worth restoring...probably only cost $30-50K on top of $20-40K for the car.

The Turbo forum should have info on VIN numbers and annual production of factory cars...

If the car is a fiberglass conversion, it is probably a good parts car....

Ask them see if they want to sell it cheap. You might be lucky. I wouldn't sell mine for $20k.

Well, I drove back past it tonight. I can only see the back of the car but it looks very similar to the car in your post rnln.

Thanks for all the info JCP911S

Sorry "Porsche Newbie" but I'm hoping to buy this one.

I will post picks from the office tomorrow.

OK. Here they are. After your responses and finding some other pics online. I think its just a 930 slant nose cabriolet. I don't think its a conversion of any type. What do you think?

If possible to get access to the car

1) Check the front fenders to see if they are all steel.... if so it is probably that is is a factory or "name" tuner car.... and potentially more valuable

2) Check the VIN that will tell you whether it is a 930 or not

3) Look under the front inside of the hood. There should be a sticker there with the paint, interior and option codes on it.... the codes are at the bottom. The code for the Slantnose body is "505"

it can be a very nice looking car. Why would people abband something like this? Might not have an engine/tranny in there??
Hope you can get it.
Good luck.

Thanks. So far the owner hasn't contacted me. I will try to stop by there sometime during the day so I might catch him there.

I think that is probably right except that it's a conversion done on a 911 the 930 were a bit pricey.

Keep us posted, get a longer lens!

Sure... you never know until you check it out and get all the facts, but if it were a factory car, chances are somebody would have grabbed it before it ended up abused in a junk-yard... that's not a good sign...

But occassionally somebody does get lucky and find something special.... that's why its so much fun.....

Yes. I'll see what I can do. Check back later for larger pics.

BTW. Still no response from the owner. I guess he would rather see it rot.
