Its very possible, but you will need the 3.6's ECU, engine harness, a different flywheel & clutch assembly, rear motor mount, engine sheet metal, PS block off plate, some oil lines, and small bits. You retain the 3.6's intake system, shroud and alternator.

The end result will make you very happy,....

i presume id need a flywheel from a 3.6 my car at the moment has a g50 box would i still need a different flywheel and abviously clutch, does the engine harness go back into the car or does it unclip in the engine bay.
what are you referring to as the rear motor mount is it the engine mount if so would i need one from a 3.6
could you please explain what you mean by engine sheet metal and ps block of plate
the engine i have seen has no ancillaries does this mean it will have no intake sytem, cheers in advance

I dont know about the Box.

Ive just done it on my 915 boxed 3.2.

Bare minimum what you need is.

a) 3.6 engine (964 or non varioram) with engine harness and loom to ECU.
b) ECU
c) Conversion harness to let you connect your new ECU/Engine to your old 3.2 system forward of the ecu. very easy, just plug in and reconnect the rev counter, fuel pump feed.

You dont need new tinware and beams. I did the following.

a) take all the tinware off the 3.2, modify it to fit the 3.6, (front and sides fine, back corner you need to block off where you havent now got a cooler.
b) block off the PS cam drive. You can buy a seal cap or if you want to destroy the 3.6 PS pump frame just saw the bottom half off and bolt it in place it seals the drive ala 3.6.
c) the tinware on the front (back) of the engine (fan side) needs a couple of triangular slots to fill some gaps
d) the main problem is mounting the engine and the pulleys. I used my 3.2 Carrera mounting beam, but this means you have to get it around the 964 pulleys and its a bit of a squeeze. You can use the 964 beam and back side tinware but you will need to bend the tips inwards and reinforce the bends.

Exhaust is fun, if you use the 3.2 exchangers the studs on the 964 head are different (shorter) or vice versa, I cant remember and it seals using a flat face and sealing ring, your 3.2 will have a mafifold insert in each stub that you will have to cut out, I ended up also grinding about half an inch from the 3.2 mounting flanges just so I could get the nuts on the end of the studs.

I heartly recommend fixing your exhaust to your engine before you mount it in the car, trying to bolt it up whilst balancing the system on your head is not what I call fun.

Then fire her up and enjoy the most awesome upgrade you can give your pre964 Porsche.

P.s a properly live remapped 964 engine (black plastic intakes) will give just as much power/toque as a vario 993 engine. If you get it done properly weve seen 964 engined carreras remapped to about 310bhp+

More testimonial:

In my 77 Euro coupe I have upgraded first to a 3.2 carrera engine and most recently to a 3.6 non vario. The 3.2 was not that different then the original 3 litre untill I added a Mass Air Flow and a chip and then it had some of the torque I was searching for. But the 3.6......changed every aspect of the car. The Torque is amazing and it actually weighs a few lbs less with the 3.6 installed. I gave up heat and used headers and spintech exhuast so I think that is where most of the weight difference came from. Getting 285 HP with remapped Cyntex chip. A Company named Instant-G makes a complete conversion kit that will solve all the issues to put the 3.6 in your 87.

The link in my previous post takes you right to Instang-G's 'frequently asked questions' about swapping a 3.6 into an earlier car.

Or go to: www.instant-g.com
