Informal pole of what tires you are running
I am going to try to get some new wheels (16x7 F and 16x9 R) for my 1987 911. I plan on running 225 fronts and 245 rears. The car will be used for street only, but with some "spirited driving" from time to time on the twisty roads. I would like a tire with good grip, good wear, and not too much noise. Come to think of it, who doesn't? But, anyway, I'd like some feedback on what you are using out there and how you like your choices of tires, in particular with respect to grip, wear, and noise. Cost really isn't an issue. Thanks.

Yoko AVS ES100 on the GTI
great trraction when warm, quiet, wear evenly, and I get 10K hard miles out of a set...........the ES is an older design and there is better technology out there these days, I'm going to try the ADVAN family next, but the ES100's are inexpensive
the 911 I'm planning on wrapping in either Toyo RA1's or Kumho Victor racers, I live in SoCal, and the thing will never see wet road so I can get away with it

I have BF Goodrich g-force sports on my '86 3.2. They are dirt cheap, and seem okay for my daily driving habits. From their numbers, they will likely last awhile too. I assume they are pretty average as far as overall traction though.

In those sizes I think you would be hard pressed to find anything better than S0-3s I am on my second set of Pilot Sports and love them but right now I am running 205/225 when I go to 9's I am going to give the S0-3s a try.

I have RE 930s and I HATE this tire.
I used to have RE71s on my 944s and they were fantastic. I bought RE930s as the 71s were discontinued and almost drove off the road on the way home. way too much side wall flex made car seam spongy in passing manouvers. went right back to the store and got S03s ..ahhhhh ! thats better.
Sold that car and bought this one with " brand new rubber " you guessed it RE 930s. so maybe after all this work I won't get an alignment done .. that way they may wear out faster .. yipee !

Toyo T1-S
3500 miles - love them. Rain or dry they stick. A bit of wear showing from excessive camber however. Not the tires fault but mine.
Now replaced by the T1-R which just got smeared by Car & Driver. I guess they didn't buy enough ad space last year . . .

I used to have SO 2's and liked them fairly well, but just recently put some BF Goodrich KDW II's on and I am in love w/the handling wet or dry. Also got them for a good price @ TireRack. Definitely outperform the SO 2's.

I've heard VERY good things about the S-03's, I personally run the Potenza RE750's (same sizes you are looking at) - they are quite sticky and a bit cheaper than the S-03's. I've been very happy with them - as someone stated earlier to useing the RE71's - I think these are more in that family than the 930's. I had 71's in the past as well.
