Cool Exhaust explosions?

I´ve noticed that the car will give exhaust explosions when you let the RPMs go down in between gear changes if you have taken the previous gear over 5500 RPM. Also, sometimes, on hard gear reductions...

Is this normal?

What year, and how loud? Are they like gun shots, or is it more of a popping noise? With most cars a popping will be normal on decelleration and/or when you put the clutch in to shift, If the car is '84 and later with a DME then it shouldn't be happening. Those backfires can come from too much fuel after the throttle has been closed, or from exhaust leaks. Can you give us more info?

Cool

´84 3.2 .

It is more of a popping noise, rather than a gunshot. Yesterday, driving behind another ´84 3.2 on a winding road at night, I noticed some "flashes" coming out from his exhaust... more or less at the same time my "popping" would happen...

I don't think the 3.2L DME cars should be popping much. Maybe just a little when you let off the gas, or if you don't let all the way off of the gas. If you let all of the way off of the gas and it's doing it then something is likely wrong, like a leaky injector or something. Nothing too serious probably.

Do you have a cat bypass pipe or other exhaust mods?

This is common with a bypass. Unburned fuel that would have been cleaned up in the cat is combusting in the pipes. No big deal.

Cool

It only happens when you let off the gas and you are driving really hard (i.e. accelerating up to redline and so on). Most motorcycles (I have) do it in some way or another, so it shouldn´t be a big deal...

Thanks for the replies, guys!
