Question 16" Fuchs spacer question

I have an '87 with 6/7 16" Fuchs. I've decided that I want to keep the wheels on the car, but would like to put spacers on for a more aggressive look. I read somewhere that 20mm spacers would do the trick. Does this sound right (and will I need new bolts)?

Not bolts - studs. And they're not easy to change! The right way to achieve your goal is to find a pair of 8x16 rears to replace the 7s with. Then you can decide to put the 7s on the front, or run the car with 6s and 8s, which is the setup that I prefer.

20mm is about 3/4 of an inch, correct? Definitely need new "studs" for that much room, unless you can find adaptors that come that thin (but I'm not sure you will). 2 8x16 fuchs will run (used but good condition, $700-1000. The longer studs are cheaper but unless you do the install yourself, expect to pay a shop for several hours of labor (at $70-100/hr?).

8x16s are all over ebay....and if you get some that need cosmetic work and do that yourself...you can save some money.....i would definitely suggest 8s on the rear versus spacers...

keep in mind wider tires = more aero drag = lower top speed / higher fuel consumption.
one reason that moving the 7s outward via spacers may be desirable (for some people & some applications: road or track / fast or quick?) to mounting x8 (or x9) rears... handling is addressed (slightly) while the wheelwells are filled (aesthetics) w/o impacting top speed or fuel economy. traction remains the same. some of the fine dilemmas of the many choices in tuning 911s...

{Jeremy, nice car, nice shot... is that a second set of mirrors & a high wing you've installed on your '87?}

Ive never had a problem with the aero drag -

I agree with Pete on running 6's and 8's. Your steering will be a lot easier. I am currently running 7's and 8's because I found a set at a ridiculous price 3 years ago. The 7's and 8's are white as are the 6's and 7's, but didn't match the white on the factory set of wheels. I think there are over 500 shades of white (or more) and if I ever run the 6's, I will paint all four wheels the same color white so I will have flexibility in using several sizes.

There are two types of 8"s out there. If they start with a "911.xxx" part number they will bolt up to the rear of your 911 and look great. If they start with a "951.xxx" part number, you have found 8's that will fit in the front, or in the back. However, if put in the back, they will still look somewhat narrow. I ran that style 8 on the back of my SC till I could find some 9's. mmm 8 and 9's do look sweet. So do the 7/8 and 7/9 combos. 6/7 just looks a bit dweebish to me. Perfect for snow tires though

Wow - I've never had an issue with my steering being hard - and I have big tires and big wheels and a smaller momo wheel. in lieu of the 6's maybe you should be looking at the 964's with their power steering.

H&R makes a 21mm spacer/adapter. They fit with 7's great. Changing studs actually is not that hard.

Cheers

If you went from a 205 width full tread street tire and then bolted up some "worn" r compound 225's you would notice a difference. I notice it all the time when swapping around tires on my SC. You especially notice when trying to parallel park by pulling in backwards
