Default What "correct" in-dash CD unit for 78 SC.

If my car ever gets here (see "delivery from hell") I will want to change the casette deck to an in-dash CD unit. Problem is I want it to look right for the car's age, similar to a Porsche unit, meaning all black with White graphics. New units look too modern.

Will later 993, 996 units fit?

Thanks.

What's wrong with keeping original and adding anMp3 thru tape? A better update for these cars is the speakers which are horrible. Or speakers and headunit if you don't care about originality.

Well there were no CD players in 1978 so there is no "correct" model per se

By "correct" I merely meant something that looks like it beongs in the car. Many new audio units have shiny buttons and purple accent lighting that won't look right.

eclipse and blaupunkt
most alpines have lights that you can turn off while listening.
any CD player is going to look modern though, but I think you know that. Anything that looks right for the cars age is going to suck

Hi Ulrich,

I used to have a PORSCHE CDR 22 radio/CD in my 84 targa. Looked this way:

Problem is, that you can´t see anythig on the display from driver position as the angle cant be changed (is is normaly used in 986 and 996) and to open it for changing CD is only to be done by two hands, as the fog-lamp and window-heater buttoms cross its way a little bit.

I just refitted the original Blaupunkt and connect a MP3 player to it via adapter cassette.

Yours

Ulrich

I installed a separate CD player, cartridge type, under the passenger seat along with a new 4 channel amp.

78 Targa, not the C4 on the left.
