Unhappy '88 911 went through puddle-won't start! FIXED!!!

Okay... I just took the kids to lunch, and on the freeway, we hit a couple of wet spots. Nothing out of the ordinary, but the kind you can hear hitting the floorboards... Fast forward to after lunch-hit the starter, and it just whirs merrily away. Initially, no catch, no nothing. This car usually fires up in the first second or two of starter operation. After a few minutes, I tried again, and it caught, sort of, but wouldn't do anything but idle on what sounded like 2 cylinders. If I even considered giving it throttle, it would die. Later still, it would run at 2000+ rpms (foot now on throttle) but would sputter and hesitiate when I gave it throttle. For now, I left the car there, but I guess I'll have to go get it at some point...

Any ideas???

The first thing you should do is pull the distributor cap and rotor and get everything nice and dry inside there.

After that, pull the connector to the oxysensor and use a moisture-displacing spray (WD-40) on both sides to remove any moisture.

See how that works.

Thanks, Steve- I honestly didn't think water could work it's way up there, but it was soaked! Dried it out, and she's running like a champ. Rennlist rocks. JD
