am i crazy
i owned a 993 for about a year.hit a telephone pole in the rain.i was going 20mph...300 bucks in damage, but found out that the car had been repainted and that there where panels fixed,so i returned the car and got my money back and into a boxster s..i recently(4months) got a 87 911...
my question is...my 3.2 feels much more secure than the 993 did..just got back from the store(in the rain)..and the car feels more planted.....i have 15s on the 3.2..the 993 had 17s..could that be it.the 3.2 feels heavier..what do you guys think?..merry xmas

Joey--I think the tires answer has got to be it. My 993 never got squirrely on me at all, even throwing it around on mountain roads very aggressively. Never had any issues in the rain either....I have an 88 Cab that has never been in the rain, but near the limit, the 88 doesn't feel as solid as the 993 personally. It feels very much more on the edge.
One thought is that your 993 suspension may not have been properly aligned. There are few shops with the expertise to deal with the rear suspension in the 993, and if improperly calibrated, the car can be dangerous to drive. That is probably what your problem was with the 993 if I had to guess.

When I bought my 964, it had half worn Michellin's on it (forgot the model). It was squirly even on dry pavement. Replaced with new rubber and the car was very planted in wet and dry. Tires are very critical...

Alignment and suspension. If either is out of whack a Porsche will be one of the worst handling cars out there, especially in the wet. Tires need to be in good shape of course, but on a properly set up car you can run just about anything and it will perform well. I tossed on a set of Toyo Proxie 4's on my track car when it rained at Watkins Glen (Hoosier slicks are not a good idea in the rain) and was amazed at the performance I got out of them..
