Kendall 20W/50 racing oil.

It is what my Independant wants to use.

The garage that I bought our '83 911SC from said that is what they serviced the car with. According to the owner's manual, 20W-50 is good for temps, down to 20 f. When I changed the oil myself I used Chevron Delo 400 15W-40. It was more for the convience of getting it in 1 gallon jugs versus alot of 1 qt bottles of Kendall. I have feeling that Kendall oil is a really good oil. You never see it advertised, yet I keep seeing it used at independant garages that service Mercedes, BMW, Porsches etc. Garages don't buy their stuffed based of high dollar ad campaigns, they buy the stuff that works.

I was recommended the Valvoline CVR1 20-50 Racing Oil from my buddy here with 30 years Porsche experience. I've been using it and car runs very smooth. Some of my favorite people here suggest the Kendall GT1 20-50 oil. Their both good. I was told to stay away the high detergent Castrol.

1911guy: Kendall GT1 20/50 is a superior product. My shop used/sold it exclusively, for twenty five years, unless a client brought in their own oil. I won't put anything else in my original engine, 203K mile '82 SC. All that you should do is verify that 20/50 is correct for your area's temps.

Some re-writes:
Garages don't buy their stuffed based of high dollar ad campaigns, they buy the stuff that won't make their supplier cause them problems...

Garages don't buy their stuffed based of high dollar ad campaigns, they buy the stuff that is cheapest and works ok.

Used to have an ace wrench that swore by Kendall. Said "if it's good enough for Don Garlits..."
