Default Paint code location on '77 911s

I ordered the wrong paint color from www.paintscratch.com using their chart and have been reluctant to re-order until I find my paint code. While I've found plenty of matching VIN numbers on my car, I have yet to find a paint code.

By the way, I ordered light yellow (L117) and the pen that arrived looks like it may be Rally yellow ( L10A ), so I might just need to re-order the same color again. However, on this computer the Talbot yellow (L106) looks like a match on the site's chart, but computer screens don't match colors very well...

yada-yada-yada... I must need sleep.

Thanks in advance, and let me know if you can help me locate the paint color code plate.

The paint code isn't part of the VIN, is it?

No. I don't know 77s but later cars were left side trunk - toward the front on the vertical body area beside the spare tire. RoW SCs had a nice plate, later Carreras have a sticker.

If your car has not been hacked around the paint code should be stamped on a small plate rivetted to the front of the left hand door frame (if a LHD the driver's side). Failing that go to a Porsche dealer with the VIN and they should be able to give you the paint code.

Not sure about the 9-1, but according to Peter Morgan's book, Original Porsche, 516 was a special order colour for 1977 called "sahara beige".
